Usb port on my zenith plasma z42pj240-ub, i plug

First I would make sure you're on the "media" input setting. Then if it still won't read, I would try a generic thumb drive without the software and see if that makes a difference. Sandisk has added software protection that is hard coded into the thumb drive and it may be interfering.

The zenith plasma tv z50px2d was hooked directly

Well the information you give about the TV connected without a filter can be a bit misleading.

The syndrom that you describe - sound but no picture - is a very common syndrom for most plasma TVs out there.

It is usually caused by worn out and failed YSUS or ZSUS board . Those are the two large boards with heat sinks on them located near the left and right corners of the TV. For Z50PX2D they have two large rectangular heat sinks on each board.

We've serviced tens if not hundreds of those. Usually the YSUS goes first and ZSUS follows anywhere between an hour and a year later.

Much like two car tires which are worn out to treads...one will utlimately burst first...and the other will follow soon...you just never know how soon.

And just like with car tires there are pros and cons to replacing one at a time and both at the same time.

There are also pros and cons to buying new versus buying used versus having your boards refurbished.

One logical conclusion that you can make from the fact that they all wear out is that you don't really want to buy a used one because you never know if it'll last a day or a year.

Refurbished, on the other hand, if done right, may be a good deal since the part that wears out most (the IPMs - the large ICs under the heat sinks) are both replaced with new. At least that's what we do...many technicians replace just one of them, the one that has failed, which doesn't make much sense because they both work together and wear out together. Replacing just one is like replacing just fron two tires on your car when all of them are so worn out that one of them eventually bursts.

Anyway...if you want more details...feel free to contact us directly.

When I switch the TV

Hi, This is a indication of what is call shut down... It ususall happens as a result of power supply problem. It is a sfety feature. To keep the hi-voltage from reaching dangerous levels and doing futher damage. Refer to a quailified tech or service center. There are voltages inside the set that can kill. Be safe.

When I switch my tv

You did not mention what you are connecting with HDMI but I have had problems with my PS3 and it is copy protection related. On a PS3, you have to connect it to HDMI1 otherwise some BlurRay movies will not play.
You might have a bad HDMI cable. I have heard the quality of cable does not matter these days but I still have had issues with the really cheap cables. I still do not buy the really expensive HDMI cables though.

Loud pop . blank screen

Possible that a capacitor has popped after it failed . So remove the power and check on the power and the drive circuit for a capacitor which has the top lid blown off and electrolyte leaked out into the board. If so use some petrol to wash the board to clear off all the electrolyte and then replace the capacitor with the same value.

I have a Zenith Z50PX2D.

Hello
First check your two remotes described here for its infrared emission. If both show that they are doing well, that is; they are emitting infrared rays, the infrared sensor inside your tV is faulty. To check the remote sensor for its infrared emission, you can use your cellphone. Put cellphone to camera mode, and place the remote controls front end towards it camera lens, at about 1 feet away or so, press each button on the remote control. Eventhough, human eye cannot detect the infrared rays, cellphone camera can. It will show an image of the rays on the screen. Check all the buttons, especially power button on your remote controls. If both do not show any image on the camera screen, understand that they are faulty. Check these. If you want anymore assistance, feel free to get me by FixYa. OK.

Sorry to say - it sounds like the 'pop of death'. The 50" Zenith plasma is very common for having a power failure issue. The problem resides in the Y-Sustain board in most cases. The Toshiba 50HP66 and Vizio P50HDM (as well as LG and HP 50" Plasmas) also have the same issue as they all use the same PDP Panel (plasma panel). The parts are manufactured by LG/Zenith Corporation. Since your Zenith is the model i'm thinking of (Z50PX2D), then the board you would need is the following:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/PCB-Y-SUS-MAIN-FOR-HP-HP-PL5060N-TELEVISION-p/2 761-hp-hp-pl5060n.htm

The above site is the ONLY place that I have ever found selling this hard to find part and the price is reasonable. If they are out of stock on that exact link, just search for 6870QYC004C on their site and you might find one that is in stock.

NOTE: Before making any purchases, please check the part and make sure it is what your TV needs. I am simply making recommendations and trying to point you to the right direction.

Sound works picture doesnt. what

Make sure you have VS and VA voltages from the power supply to the Y main and the Z sustain modules. If they are present then check for 5 volts and 15 volts to turn the modules on. Those can be found on the power supply module.
