You had a low end cheap receptacle more than likely or possibly a loose wire on the receptacle. You should have #12 wire fed from a 20 amp breaker and a 20 amp spec grade receptacle.

The safety has tripped and these are not an economically viable repair

The buzzing noise was coming from the back of hte unit on the lower left side. It may have been a "stuck" switch & tapping on the side seemed to fix it.
