While watching TV (all audio ran through my Pioneer VSX-516), the receiver shut off by itself, so I powered it back on. Then it powered off again a couple mins later, and wont power up at all now. I

Try holding the "advanced surround" and "enter" buttons and see if it turns back on. If it shuts off again, disconnect all speaker wires and try it again. If it stays on, you have a bad speaker or wire. If it still shuts down, the amp is blown and needs to be repaired.

Power overload

That is a good thing, your receiver is going into "protect mode" that means the receiver is shutting down to keep from damaging delicate internal circuitry, it is sensing a speaker bottoming out or some other electrical "short" that could be damaging!
Also could be from over driveing the amp and then it starts to overheat thus going into "protect mode".
If your speakers are "clipping or distorting" turn it down, you are going to ruin your amp. Good luck !

My amp says overload and switches off only when i

This may happen for two reasons:
1. Bad air ventilation. Clean any ventilation holes all over the case and if possible open the cover and clean the dust using a brush and a vacuum or air under pressure. Take care not to make any damage at the wires, connectors e.t.c. with the brush.
2. Too many, or too low impedance speakers at each channel. In this case I have to know what speakers do you use in order to clarify if the speakers' resistance is too low for the amplifier and create this problem.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

I want to program the aux thing on my comcast

There should be a "cheat sheet" on the inside of the battery compartment on the comcast remote, if not, simply contact a Comcast customer service tech and they should be able to walk you through programming your device. Most of the time there is a universal code (9,9,0,0) or something similar. Your best bet is to contact your cable operator.

TV/SAT Video channel went out - Pioneer VSX516

Double check the video connection cable directly out of the SAT reciver and the video cable out from the Pioneer reciver, as there maybe an intermittant connection in them. If you replace them or sub them for known good ones, and you still have this probem, there is a switching IC inside the pioneer that has to be replaced.

The left channel on our Pioneer VSX-D409 is weak. Some sound is coming through, but very little. We have double checked the wire and the connection in back. Everything there is kosher. Any ideas?

Check the balance control. Apart from that the unit will have to be checked internally to ascertain where the signal is breaking down. This will require some skill and some equipment. My guess is it will be a dry solder joint or a dried out capacitor. If a capacitor looks 'leaky' or swollen, it is a good bet it is outside its tolerance and should be replaced. Sorry couldn't be any better help. Good luck.

You can't!Change the batteries in the remote and look at the front of the remote using the front facing selfie camera on a smartphone. Press the power button and see if you see a red or blue flash. If you don't see light the remote has failed. You can't do any advanced features without it.
