do you have a Menards, or a Lowes in your area, if you do they can give you the answer to this question, it is a bad idea to get this information from on line unless you go to the website for the fan and see if they have the correct wireing diagram on their website......

it is a new fan? If so electrician needed..If not try replacing batteries in remote.... its happened to me...

If your sure it is powered from the wall switch, then your more likely to have a bad capacitor for the fan or a wire has loosened under the fan.

Check the capacitor to see if it's bad.

It sound like a common problem inside of one of your twist on connectors a wire is not making contact or has broken. The purple wire if grounded on one end is just a ground for the motor housing it is extra insurance to make sure you are protected from a short. It normally goes to the neutral wires. If it's 3 phase, reverse any two of the leads feeding the motor (incoming power). If it's single phase 240 or 120 volt, it's very tricky and some are not reverseable. Look at the name plate...
