Picture on Akai PDP4273M1 suddenly degraded

You could smash the TV and find that it will work better or call a local repairman. I know the exact problem with this TV, but only a technician should even open a TV. The guy I got the TV from totally butchered the inside of his Akai in a failed attempt to fix his TV himself. Instead, he created a fire hazard and is lucky he did not burn his house down.

Black vertical line

The drive module for the screen, or the screen itself has to be replaced. Either being defective can cause your described fault condition. The service tech would find the defective board by swapping them with new ones.

These parts are expensive.

There is no supported component level service on the circuit boards. They use complex SMD technology, and it would be impossible to troubleshoot these boards as like was done in the older days in equipment that used standard type components.

One way to fix your set, is to find another defective set of the exact same model, and swap out the required parts from it. The problem here is that there is a good chance that the same parts are defective in the other set. In this case, you would still be left with the same problem and have spent good money to buy another defective set.

If it was possible to have your TV set built with standard type discrete components, the electronics would be many thousands of times their size, and the cost would be unaffordable.

Tv turns on clicks but never comes on just clicks

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsun. Know to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio conections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the location of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check a Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.

Where i get the EHT of Akai Tv

EHT or Extra High Tension is the power supplied to the final anode of the cathode ray tube. The EHT is traditionally generated by the line transformer from the flyback pulse of the line oscillator/amplifier. The generated high frequency high voltage current was from the outset rectified by a thermionic diode (eg. EY51, EY86) but by the late 1960s/early 1970s technology brought high voltage diodes and semiconductors rapidly replaced the old technology and the output from the line transformer then typically fed the anode via a semiconductor voltage doubler. The rectified EHT was originally smoothed by a high voltage oil-filled capacitor but that was soon deleted in favour of spraying the outside of the CRT with a metallic paint and grounding it. This became the high voltage smoothing capacitor with the glass of the CRT being the dielectric and the final anode the positive pole...

My Akai has lost a much watched channel overnight. I have tuned the channels, but still unable to recover. What else can I try?

Check if the channel is off-the-air due to an issue at the transmitter. After a severe storms, some local stations lost their transmitter because the tower fell. More often, the transmitter hardware can fail. One station repeater near me had an interesting period where it didn't get the incoming signal from the primary transmitter. Check that your antenna hasn't shifted to point away from the transmitter. Reposition the antenna, if needed. If you have an amplifier on your antenna, check if that has been damaged. If it has been damaged, replace it. My household found that the antenna/splitter became a filter for one VHF channel when damaged by a lightning strike. The check was to connect the antenna to one TV without the amplifier. The other common issue is interference. Has there been construction in your area that added a large building between you and the transmitter? I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Purchased a brand new Akai AK6520NF TV yesterday - today the tv turns off every 10mins. Any suggestions on what this might be or how to fix please & thanks

First try checking the "auto off" function. I am not familiar with Akai TVs so this advice is very basic. Use the 'Menu' button and find Settings, (It might also be listed as Set Up). Go into this section of the settings. There should be a feature listed as 'Time' or 'Timer'. Set this to Off. Your other option, if it is a brand new TV is to contact the store you bought it from and ask their advice.

How do i fix my akai tv stuck in startup screen

Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here.
