Solis Maestro Electric Burr Grinder Questions & Answers
Starbucks Barista Burr Grinder (Solis 166) motor does not run
Hi
Remove bean hopper
Remove grounds hopper
Remove timer knob on the side
Turn the grinder upside down
There are 4 slits on the outside edge.
Insert a screw driver into the **** and pry gently outward with a
little downward pressure on the outside until the side slips a bit.
Repeat on all 4 slits and the shell should slide off.
There is a fuse on the side of the motor that will blow and stop the motor. It is a thermal fuse and should be replaced by a qualified tech.
The timer knob broke - can't find replacement
Assuming it has broken on the shaft then you could pry the broken bit off the shaft and take the knob and broken piece to your domestic appliance parts stockist.
The shafts are usually a standard size and there might be a similar knob that you could replace it with.
I can't remember the simple key to disassembling
Hi
Rotate the bean hopper counter clockwise until it stops. Lift the bean hopper out. Remove the outer burr with the wing-lets. Can go back in either way. Clean with air or vacuum out grounds. Use small brush to help clean grounds. Reinstall burr. Line up notches of the bean hopper with shell ( large tab in large slot, and small tab in small slot). Rotate bean hopper clockwise a small amount and test.
All of sudden my grinder plugs up. coffee settles
This fixes almost all the "beans will not feed or beans will not grind"
problems caused by coffee bean dust packed in the burrs. Oily beans
cause this problem more fequently.
a. Pour all the beans out the top.
b. Open the settings up all the way and see what else can be poured
out. Use your shop vacuum to **** grounds out the spout and backward
out the bean bin.
c. Pour in some instant rice and start grinding. Reduce the grind to
a small setting like six and then open the settings all the way again.
(The grinder will not start at a low setting with the rice in it. If
you let it stop, open the settings to about 16 before trying to
restart.)
d. Pour out the rice and vacuum out the ground rice.
e. Adjust the grinder to your favorite setting and try a coffee grind.
Grind until most of the rice dust is expelled (any remaining trace of
rice dust will not affect the flavor of the coffee).
Replacing hopper after cleaning
The hopper has two slots in the bottom that aligns with two black tabs in the base. Rotate the tab ring in the base counterclockwise and then install the hopper.

HI
Yes the burrs will wear out. They can be replaced. To remove the outer burr. Twist the bean hopper counterclockwise until it stops. Lift the bean hopper out. There is a cream colored ring with 2 tabs that will lift out holding the outer burr. To get the inner cone burr out is a little more difficult. We use a vice grip and grab the burr, and lock the pliers to it. Then with a quick movement clockwise on the pliers, you loosen it. Then clockwise unscrew the burr. When you install the new burr, it truns on counter clockwise until it stops. Insert the new outer burr. Push down so the tabs will lock in. Install the bean hopper into the correct slots ( 1 large tab and 1 small tab). Twist clockwise to turn on and test. Remember it must be grinding to turn to a finer grind but can be turned to a coarser grind any time.
Grinds coffee too coarse
Hi
Sounds like you have a broken grind adjustment ring. You should contact Baratza and see if you can get a replacement. 877-701-2021 8:00am to 5:00 PST Monday thru Friday.
Grinder doesnt grind beans although
I would suspect a log in the outlet shute where it goes into the grinds hopper. Clean it out and then turn the hopper to the coarsest setting to clean it out all together. Coarse grinds are a very good cleaner.
Solis runs fine but does not grind the beans
Check to make sure the beans are gettng inside the machine to the blades. Make sure blades are still sharp and make sure they spin when motor is on. If they are not spinning, the blades make have broken loose on the shaft that spins them. They are usually pressed on and sometimes the the shaft can wear loose. Make sure blades are tightly on and are sharp and there is no obstruction
I am having problems putting the hopper back in the burr grinder
Hi,
Sometimes my wife or I pull the hopper out before the grinder is totally stopped and then some coffe gets behind the hopper. Thre are a couple of small slots that hold the coffe and the hopper will not slide back all the way again...we then need to take a knife and clean everything out good before it will work again...
