Model 5821XL simply has two screws on the back. With the unit UNPLUGGED, simply remove the screws and remove the back of the casing
My 7800XL twice dropped to
check the metal tabs on the batteries to see if they are in tact. dropping the unit can break one or both of the tabs causing a lack of connection. also chech the back of the circuit board where those same tabs are soldered to the board. these can also crack from such a jolt. if either of these are the issue, you can repair with a little electrical soldering
