The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

Unplug TV power cord for two hours , and plug it back, this will fix the problem.

Try a har reset, by unplugging the Tv for about 5 minutes then plug it back in and see if the remote functions are restored..

Tt might be the problem with he color circuit board, bring it to the repair shop for repair, or if you can do it do re-soldering to any visual crack at the soldered lead terminal of the components on the circuit board and then try put on to check if the problem goes away?

That unit has a couple of various problems that are common. The first, I would check the 2d comb filter for ring cracks. If you see any resoldering them should restore the picture,

I don't have a pdf file for fungus in an akai, but you will need to remove the 2 tubes from the set, take off the cover for the reservoir and dump out the fluids and then fill them back up. you will then need to know how to do the convergence alignment after you put the tubes back in. This is a involved process, if you want to tackle this on your own let me know and we will see what we can do.

If the distortion that you see can be described as somewhat of a 3-D picture, the problem is teh convergence circuit and this can be fixed easily. Also, if you can solder, you can fix this yourself. If you wish to do this, please update this and I'll provide you with some instructions.

If there is not power at all, not even the red led on , then test a different power outlet.

If it is not the power outlet, then it is a faulty power supply board.

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

You'll need to find a technician to do some re soldering on the circuit board, problems like this happens when components' lead terminals are loose. hope it helps

When you turn your tv off turn it off using the remote control then turn off the tvs switch itself... Try this for a few days hope it works for you.
