No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. When I Google the model number the first thing that shows is Replacement LCD Screens for it which leads me to believe there is an issue with them. There is three parts to the display, the video card section, the exciter module and the screen itself. Thats a pretty old PC but still usable. You might have a bad video card or the heat sink has failed. Adding some thermal paste to the processors heatsink will probably fix this. If not, replace or add a video card. The video card can be found pretty cheap online.
