Dvd burner not reconizing dvd's

Read your manual. It sounds as if you might have purchased the wrong type of dvd's. For example, if your dvd player states it uses dvd - r, then you can not use dvd + r dvd's. and visa versa. You have to find out what dvd's specifically your unit takes/utilizes. I think there is about 5 different types of dvd's coding (dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw) find out which yours takes and you should be ok. Good Luck and hope this helps you!

If this is the Lite-on DVD drive, it should be directly supported by Windows, no Drivers should be needed.

Dvd rw wont work

From the device manager, delete the entry for the DVRW and then reboot or rescan for defvices. You might also check LiteOn's web site for a newer driver. If no luck, see if you can install it in another PC. If no luck there, the unit is just flaky and should be replaced.

Sometimes the system will take care of finding drivers in the background and not let you know. (You can sometimes see balloons/small windows at the bottom right of the screen giving you progress.) That's probably what it did.

My Lite-on DVD RW-SHW-160-P65 ATA

Have you checked the computer manufacturer's website for drivers?

You can also try this:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.

3) restart computer,

I can not get my

Welcome to FixYa. My name is Steve. The surefire way to see if your cd rom will work with your computer is to boot your computer with the windows 98 start up disk and choose the option to start the computer with cd support. If you do not have a start up floppy you can make one using the Microsoft instructions at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187632 If your cd works with the generic drivers loaded with that Start up floppy then you need only to locate the drivers for your cd rom which you have not yet specified as to the brand and model number. Post that info if you need more help. Steve Medley
