Windows is not able to install drivers for Fanton
Your drive is defective. I had the same problem with mine. It was still under warranty, contact there tech support department. They will walk you through a bunch of test over the phone. If you have to send it in , you have to get a ticket number from Fantom Tech Support before you send it back. Also, they want your power cord that goes with the unit to be able to bench test it. I had to mail mine defect unit back. . Fanton could not fix my Green Drive and I lost a ton of data, it was almost full 1000 Gig. After several contacts to their tech department, they did send me a reconditioned one.
Do not buy the External Green Drive it is a piece of ****. It has an inferior power cord. And the power is cut down to be green friendly when It is not in use. Not worth risking your data and files. All my other Fantom Drives have been very reliable.
Do not buy any WD External Hard Drives especially the Note & work books cubes. They are a complete waste of money and are guaranteed to fail and lose all your data. I have had six fail on me and their Tech Support & Customer Service is awful and non existent.
Fantom titanium external light turns red on connecting
Hi,
Red is a failure warning but if it only hasppens with the usb plugged in it's mostly likey a failure in the IDE/SATA to USB conversion board.
Take the drive to your local PC shop, ask the techs there to pull the hard drive out of your phantom and test it in a new enclosure. If it works there, buy the enclosure, if it doesn't reply back and let me kow your Country, State and City and I can recommend a pro to look at the actual harddrive if you need files recovered from it.
Hope this helps FixYa
MY fantom drive TFDU20072 200 gb has worked for
Try the basics first. Unplug and let sit for a while before rebooting the drive. Then if nothing, get a copy of Disk Warrior and you may be able to regain access to the drive in order to save your data.
Fantom 120GB HARD DRIVE BLINKS RED& BLUE LIGHTS WITH SOUND
Sounds like your drive is trying to recalibrate itself which is what the clicking noise is. This is similar to the post routine for your motherboard when you boot up to ensure everything is operating properly. You indicated the drive may have suffered some physical damage and this is a result of that. Probably a head crash and one of the heads is damaged or the calibration track is damaged. Try switching the heads with another drive of the same model. If it comes up (calibrates) get your data off fast and consider yourself lucky. If it doesn't come up then it is dead. You can call one of the repair services listed on the net or try contacting the manufacturer for their opinion. Good luck, but I think you have a very serious problem.
Drive not appearing
You formatted, but did you create a Partition? Go back to Disk Management and create a Partition on the drive. You should be able to now see it in "My Computer."

Fantom Titanium Hard Drive - 500GB
You can remove the drive from the casing and connect it inside your pc, using IDE cables if its an IDE or a SATA cable, if it comes with one
Fantom Drive problem
Try connecting it to a Windows XP Pro pc. Right click on "My Computer", left click on "Manage". Once the new management console opens, left click on "Disk Management". If the USB drive is recognized by the pc, you will be able to right click on it, and select "Delete Partition". WARNING: YOU ARE DELETING EVERYTHING ON THE DRIVE! Once it's done, right click on the drive again, and select "Create New Partition". Proceed thru the wizard that pops up, and format it. You will have a choice of using FAT32, but, if the partition is larger than 32 GB, it will fail (it's a Windoze limitation), so NTFS is your only choice, unless you use a 3rd party utility, Win98 (supports huge FAT32 partitions, 4 TB, I think), or Linux.(preferred). Good Luck, hopefully everything will work out fine. T-Power

Here is a fix.
Open the drive case up. Inside is a SATA hard drive. If you reseat the drive it may correct the problem. If not you can put it into a computer and see if you access the drive.
We used a Linux boot CD in case their was a problem with the data. We used KNOPIX. THe data was intact and we did a backup befroe we put the drive back together.
They also offer a restore service if you get an RMA.
Is it broken?
Try opening the drive and check the cables inside, try removing the IDE or SATA cables and try reinserting it again. then test if it works, if not try it on another PC, if this doesn't work, try installing the drivers for your hard drive and retest

Switching to a Mac
Your hard drive is probably formatted with the NTFS file system which is read only on MAC. The following article should guide you through making your drive writable on the MAC system. http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifehack/how-to-read-and-write-ntfs-windows-partition-on-mac-os-x.html

Yellow light?
Tre, save early, save often, save many. I have seen, heard and experienced external hard drives failing. It is a good habit to use the "usb device safe removal tool" the green arrow on the task bar. When the device is safely removed, turn it off. When you need the drive again...turn it on save files, safely remove device, turn it off.
Sometimes the turning on and off of the computer with the drive hooked up can cause issues over time.
Anyway hope that helps.
Good Luck.
Tim
