Mintek Portable DVD/CD Player w Questions & Answers
Player works fine with TV. Picture will not
If jiggling the lid switch causes the picture to show dimly, the switch may have bad contacts.
Can you see the picture if you shine a flashlight or lamp on it at an angle? If so, your problem is specifically the display backlight (including perhaps the lid switch in the circuit). If it uses Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL), the CCFL tubes may be going bad, and jiggling the lid switch is having the same effect as multiple flips of a light switch to start up weak fluorescent light tubes. If the screen has a pinkish tinge or the light flickers a lot, that's another indicator that a bad tube is your problem. A replacement CCFL is probably about $8-$10, but the replacement requires some disassembly and highly skilled solder work (you have to make a physically small connection, and you can't have heat on it for more than three seconds at a time).
Screen says "no disc" what is my problem?
Problems often occur on the DVD / CD player is on the motor, optic cable, and optical konponen weakened.
Try changing the motor first, then optic cable and the last one is optic.
Have not used my mintek for about two years but
The motor probably froze up over time. You need to put a disc in and spin it with your finger around in the direction it normally turns in play mode. Do that for a while and then see if it will do on it's own.
AC adapter for SANYO Xacti
Radio Shack has a replacement adaptor for the Xacti VAR-G9,
You need the following
5V DC (Five Volts Direct Current)
2.0A (Minimum 2.0Amps - more is OK, less is not)
The TIP is positive.
The unit I purchased from RadioShack is P/N273-1696 and works great for my Xacti.
Make sure you don't have any little kids who may change the switch setting from +5V to something larger.
Also pay CAREFUL attention to the TIP voltage on the adaptor.
The Sanyo takes a + Tip.
There are other cheaper solutions as well, but this unit can be re-used with other gadgets.
My Sanyo VAR-G9 AC adaptor failed after TWO DAYS out of the box, so I can't recommend buying a Sanyo VAR-G9, until Sanyo fixes their manufacturing problems with the units.

Qtip , alcohol and acetone ? I am almost sure that you have already ruined the lens. In many of the CD or DVD players that I have repaired, the problem is the degradation of the power of thelaser. Im computer drives there are cases that I was able to fix the porblem by adjusting the power of the laser. this is quite dificult as the trimmer potentionmeter is very small and most often very hard to access. Usually this trimmer is located in the laser assembly.. Another dificulty is that the adhustment should be procise, too much power will also not work.
My success rate of this procedure is only about 50-70 %
But because you already cleaned it with Qtip, maybe the lens are no longer aligned and because of the alcohol and acetone, the lens may not be clear anymore.
No hdmi cable spot on my mintek 26" tv do i need a converter or will this not work?
If it has the RCA (Red,White,Yellow) ports you will have to use those. In that case if you are using something like a DVD player that only has HDMI output you will need a special cable that goes from RCA to HDMI. Here is a quick link for you to reference.
