That is just to keep the machine from spilling COFFEE
all over the place if the OPERATER
yanks out the
CARAF
WHILE THE COFFEE IS BREWING...
(before it is
done...
(About as
smart as
fast frying BACON...
*****)).
In the
OLDEN DAYS... (when life was simpler)
we just let the machine
finish making coffee...
THEN pull out the CARAF.
I like strong coffee... Steeping is part of the
BREWING...Tastes a little more like
COFFEE
rather than just BROWN
water.
(No point in drinking a quart of water
just to have a cup of coffee).
But hey... It's your money.

exact same lid is on the Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 coffee maker. (It's
exactly like the Starbucks one - same size & fit.) Call (800)
275-8273 and order part # WPTPCM010-6; the product description is "LID
FOR CARAFE". It will cost you $4.99 + 5.00 shipping. My Starbucks
coffee pot works PERFECTLY again. Just make sure that you put the lid
on the carafe correctly before you use it, since the seal is new.

If your in a hard wayter area the basket overflow valve may be need cleaning. Fill with white vinegar and run a full cycle. Rinse by running 2 or 3 cycles with clean water. You may need to repeat the vinegar cycle if the problem persists.
