Try the following1. Open any folder, go to "Tools" and click on "Folder Options"2. Go to "View" tab3. Go down the list and uncheck the box that says "Use simple file sharing " if you are using windows 7 then it says "use sharing wizard"When that box is unchecked, go to your hard drive and right click and go to the "Security" tab and click on "Advanced"4. Then go to "Owner" and select the Administrator" to take ownership and remember to check the box at the bottom that says "replace ownership to folders and subsfolders" the click ok and close everything.5. Right-click the hard drive again, go to the security tab and click on "Add", then click on "Advanced" then click on "Find now" then on the list of users that comes out, select "Administrator" and click ok. They don't work forever. As you have a power light, it may be worth taking out of the case and trying in a different case. You may be lucky.

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

You can have the data removed by a file recovery business, it is costly. They remove the stoarge media and read it directly using special equipment. Unless the hard drive works (you can read it with your computer) that is your only choice

You can delete both partitions and then create a single partition and then format the partition.If you do not want to delete the partitions and lose your data then you can use a program called Partition Magic to resize your main partition so it is a single partition.

is the scratchy sound coming from inside your lacie or outside ??

it might be a power problem trying to connect to your lacie but unable to find the device or a dirty hard drive the reader arm skipping across the platters you could give your lacie a firm tap on the side to free up the reader arm
