Your nose and eyes should lead you to the faulty part for this, once you get inside the subwoofer. Anything that burns up producing the smell will possibly leave a visual trace. But your nose will lead to the part that smells. Replace it and see what happens!

Find some adhesive such as Liquid Nails or Gorilla Epoxy and put a small amount on the speaker that has become dislodged. Make sure that the area where you put the adhesive will come in contact with the rest of the speaker tower.

Too bad they use a proprietary connector or you could just go to Radio Shack and snag one for a few bucks. At around $100 or more apiece the OEM supplers are gouging you.

I can'tthink of any reason it would have 3 unique conductors. It's DIRECT CURRENT - a Positive and a Ground.

The price all revolves arount that connector. I'd go to Radio Shack and buy an off-the-shelf AC supply then transplant the tip from the old one.

According to the Harman-Kardon AVR 630 User Manual, if the 8CH mode is not available, you can try unplugging the unit from the AC wall outlet and waiting for at least three minutes. After the pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a system reset may clear the problem. The 8CH may not be available according to the user manual. You need to contact Harman-Kardon customer support.

It's in the protect mode because of a component failure inside. It needs to be repaired to get out of the protect mode.
