No power cord

You should be able to pick up a replacement or one that works with your drive at a electronics store. Power cables for those are pretty standard.

G Drive Mini 500GB -

Thanks for your email. The G-DRIVE Mini does not require any drivers to work on a PC, but it does require that you format the drive so that the PC can recognize it, or use a program on the PC to recognize the Mac formatting. To format the drive for cross-platform use, make sure that you have backed up all your data from the drive as formatting will destroy any data on the drive. First, connect the drive to your Mac, and open Disk Utility. Then select your drive on the left side of the window and choose the Partition Tab. Then change the Current Partition drop-down menu to 1 partition and click on the Options button. A new window will appear where you will choose Master Boot Record (MBR), then click OK. Then choose Free Space from the Format drop-down menu, click Apply, then OK. Your drive will now appear unformatted. Then choose the Erase tab, choose FAT32 as the Format, name your drive (you will be limited to 11 characters), and click Erase, then OK. Your drive will then appear on the desktop formatted for cross-platform use, and you can copy the data you need to move to your PC and then connect the drive to your PC. If formatting is not an option, the you can buy a program such as MacDrive that will allow your PC to read and write Mac OS files.

I purchased a G/Drive Mini

It sounds like it could be either the controller board, or the drive itself. Since the drive eventually locks up your system, I tend to believe that the hard drive is the problem. You will need to send it in for replacement, you can find the RMA request form here: http://www.g-technology.com/Support/Support.cfm?Loc=Tsupport.

HI,I'm Loren and I want

Shutdown the computer.
DIsconnect the G-Drive.
Restart your computer.
After Windows is fully running, reconnect the G-Drive to a USB port.
Windows should "beep" when it recognizes the new USB device.

Now, open "My Computer" and right-click to select "Manage" and open "Disk Management (local)".
You should see an image showing the drive as being "unpartitioned".
Click on that image to initialize the disk-drive, and to assign a drive-letter.

Im turining my drive on

When a hard drive makes a clicking sound, (its known as the click of death), The hard disk is faulty and it is unlikely it will work again.
If you need to recover data from this hard disk there are companies that can help you, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

No power to the Jentec

Hi there,

Here is what you can do to try and retrieve your songs. First of all, the problem may be that there is a problem with the power supply or the cables inside the unit are damaged or not making good contact.

I would suggest that you open the drive and carefully remove the actual hard drive from the enclosure without touching the under-side of the hard drive. Then turn off your computer (desktop computer) and open it, you should be able to remove the right hand side cover from the case. Look for another hard drive that is in the computer, there should be an extra cable much like the one that is going to the hard drive in your computer, plug this into the hard drive and plug the power cable into it (power cable should also look like power cable that the hard drive that is currently in your desktop computer has). Then start up your computer and you can then access all the data.

If there is no extra openings for your hard drive, you will see probably two hard drives, remove the one that is the slave drive, you can tell if it is the slave drive by looking at the jumper found on the back of the drive, on the top of the drive, there will be a diagram showing you how to set it as a master or slave and this is how you will tell that it is the slave or the master. Make sure you take the slave drive out and then put the other hard disk which came out of the enclosure into the place where you just took the slave hard drive out of.

If you have done this and started your computer but the hard drive doesn't show in "My Computer", the hard drive is probably damaged, what would have probably happened ion this case is that the needle which hovers above the magnetic disc inside the hard drive itself may have fallen onto the disc so it can no longer read the data. You can still get your data off of it but you cannot do it yourself, you will have to take it to a professional technician to do it for you because it has to be done in a 100% dust proof room which an ordinary person probably doesn't have. He will then open the hard drive and place the needle back to where it is supposed to be so you can once again access your data.

Please note: If your hard drive is new, it might still be under warranty so i suggest that you take it in to get it repaired because if you open the drive yourself, the warranty will be voided and you will not be able to get t fixed for free.

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a great day and please remember to rate this solution.

Best regards,

Cant backup gdrive and it

What connection did you use (USB or FireWire)? What are the available connections on your HD (hard drive)?

If the HD is being detected but not showing the saved files in it, try connecting the HD into another USB or FireWire ports in your computer.

Or try connecting your HD into another computer just to make sure. If same problem occur, use another cable to isolate the problem.

If that did not help, wrap the HD with old news papers, put it into a zip lock and put the HD inside the freezer for 5 minutes only. This will help the HD to compress the files. This step is not posted but I have tried that and it worked.

Good luck and have a great day!
