I've read some scary reports that e31 might mean you are out of luck.

I'd still get onto Bushnell themselves and ask them what it means.

Be sure to ask them for a quote before agreeing to send it away for repairs. Often when there's a hardware issue inside the device, because of stupidly high service fees, you could be better off just purchasing a new one.

Bases usually match up with gun, not optics although some are 1” and others are 30mm

check the menu for the IR illuminator function.
Otherwise your targets are just not warm enough.
That is IF you're using night vision/thermal vision.
