Won bugaboo auction on ebay.

I haven't heard of any fakes in our market in New Zealand but the identification stickers are always on the central handle hub axle? Contact www.bubaboo.com and have them check the serial number. They would like to know of any fakes in the market. The originals are made in Taiwan maybe the fake would be better? It wouldn't be hard to improve on the handle locks and brake release and Bugaboo haven't

Hi. the lock on the handle won't completely

Try spraying silicon spray into the locks. Look on the inside of the handle where it joins the plastic hub. You'll see a slot and a wire rod inside. Spay in heaps and then try working the release buttons a few times. If this does not work you have a broken locking disk. Check my other postings on how to fix this.

Wheel doesnt lock when i put on the brakes

Brake cable is probably loose. Follow cable down from lever you'll find an adjustment nut at the end. Loosen the lock nut and wind the cable holder out to take up the cable slack. Check operation if happy retighten lock nut.

I agree bugaboo after-sales service is crazy. Try a plastic welder. I've seen amazing repairs done on plastic components I thought where unsalvageable.

The rubber on the handle

If just tears in the handle rubber check out a local dive shop for the glue they fix wetsuits with. Most common brake fault is just a loose cable. The adjuster is at the bottom end of the cable. Just wind it out to take up the cable slack.

How to fix a Bugaboo Handle

If you are not a handyperson type, take these instructions to you local Bicycle Mechanic or Small engineering shop.

The bugaboo handle fault is caused by two small plastic pins shearing of a plastic disk that actuates two metal locking rods. Why bugaboo uses a plastic disk for this critical component is beyond me!

1/. Remove the domed star lock washer. This is the hardest part of the job. Most people try to leaver this off in the hope of re using. First problem with this is you will mark or damage the surrounding plastic second is star locks are not intended for reuse and will never hold as well as when first used, so best find a new replacement. A hardware store should be able to source some for you. Quickest way to remove a dome washer is to carefully cut a slot in the dome with an angle grinder and then use a large screwdriver to prize off.
Note it is best to open and repair one side at a time, so your moving and flexing one side of the handle does not dislodge parts in the other side.

2/. The lock mechanism is very simple; a wire rod rotates a plastic disk. The disk has two plastic pins that move the locking rods in and out of the inner hub into and out of the outer hub. You need to ether repair the disk by drilling out the pin stumps and finding a replacement metal screw you can fit / glue in. Or (my preferred choice) have a new metal disk fabricated that will last a lifetime.

3/. Reassemble handle locking hub and check operation. (I use a small amount of the grease used for taps to give a smooth action) If all is well fit the new star dome on the hub shaft and tap home. To protect the dome finish I use a large socket from my socket set and an old rubber washer from a toilet cistern.

4/. Repeat operation on the other side. Note the disks are mirror images of each other and are not interchangeable. Bugaboo calls the side with the brake lever “LEFT” the disk will have a serial number that ends with “L”. I have had metal disks laser cut and stainless steel pins fitted. Cost of a disk with a new star dome washer is $75 New Zealand. If you like one or a set, you can contact me [email protected]

Regards

Steve

The cable has an adjustment nut at the bottom end. You need to wind it out to remove slack in the cable.

Brake(?) rubbing on left big wheel when not on level surface or turning

The same thing happened to mine. I had a good look at what was going on and decided that the length of brake chord is ever so slightly too short. Even with the brake cable adjuster as far "down" as it can go, the chord brings the brake shoe up too close to the wheel making the "raspberry noise" on the left. I got my brand new bugaboo suspiciously cheap and am now wondering whether perhaps it was a factory second because of the short chord.
Anyway, after a bit of tinkering the problem has been almost eradicated, it now only makes the rude noise on the tightest of turns.
1) First, ensure the brake cable adjuster is as far down as possible by rotating it clockwise until you can rotate no further. It can be a bit fiddly so try taking the right big wheel off to get better access to the adjuster.
If the adjuster was not at the bottom before then put the wheel back on and give it another go - it might now work!
2) if not, turn the chassis upside down and identify the thinner cross-bar, just above the "big wheel" axle. You should be able to see 2 screws, one at either end of the bar.
Unscrew the screw at the opposite end of the bar to the brake cable. Now, GENTLY pull the brake at the same end( the green nobbly bit)upwards, towards you whilst re-tightening the screw you've just removed. Only release the little bit of tension on the brakes once the screw is fully tightened.
This step might seem a bit pointless, as it appears that you unscrew a screw, then do it straight back up. Fair point but that tiny bit of flex in the brake/crossbar assembly made all the difference to ours!
I do hope this helps - I really think there is a bit of a design fault here as ideally the adjuster should be set in the middle of the range so that adjustments can be made either side of the neutral. Mine is right on the lower limit and hence has no further room for adjustment. Unless of course it is, as I say, a factory second!! Sorry if I've gone all technical.
Good luck!
