Water smell
You may have some residue inside the steam pipe from previous uses (e.g. milk). If you know how to remove the steam pipe, this will be easy to clean. Otherwise, you could try a pipe cleaner (depending on the type of steam wand). You can also try running the steam pipe into some water, but be careful not to overheat the boiler (consult your manual... it may say you can't steam continuously for more than a minute, or even less).
Temperature problem

It's a Microbar and everything
It looks like it may be boiling over onto some electrical circuitry and causing the house earth leakage to trip out. Check that a pipe has not been displaced or cracked, a boiler has not cracked or split and is allowing steam or water onto the wiring. Ensure that the appliance is unplugged before you open anything to look inside.
My machine message is too much coffee, and is not
Too much coffee comes up when the load on the bottom chamber is too much.
Generally, it means you have too much coffee in the lower chamber.
If so, adjust the grinding times in the program.
Alternatively, if this happens with no coffee in the chamber, it may be the top piston is sticking on the lip of the bottom chamber as it moves.
You can try making coffee with the front door open(obviously pulling the front door switch so the machine works..:) and see what happens.
Nuova simonelli vip over pressure problem
Could be lack of water in the boiler, could be a faulty pressure stat or vent valve. Check the level probe first, then the vent valve and then the pressure stat. You can also use the manual fill to make sure water is getting to the boiler.
