Bf72 not doing the wash cycle correctly
If you are using hot water connection then check the temperature of incoming water is hot enough. If cold water inlet only is used then most likely the heater element or thermostat in the dishwasher is faulty and the water is not heating enough.
After commencing a programme my Hotpoint BF71
Check for a float switch that senses the water level. It may have two level sense of filled and overfill the latter would trigger the waste pump to avoid a flood. If the filled switch has failed, that could cause the problem. The waste pump MAY also be triggered on the basis of the filling taking too much time before the filled switch actuates... if it has failed, the time would be exceeded.

This seems to be the "anti flood" device at the base of the washer is triggered due to water at the base of the washer. This safety device consists of a polystireene float and a micro switch that detects water leaks/spills and automatically puts the washer in pump out mode. You need to find the leak (hose or clamp)dry the base and rectifythe leak it before the washer works.
Bf72
Error caused by a leak which fills the plastic base tray and operates pressure switch to stop machine working, easy to check by removing metal panel under door (2 screws) and feeling for water. Make sure its switched off first. If pool of water found like i found dry out remove side panels and run on a short cycle to locate leak. Mine was from a joint with a oring on the RH side of the m/c which was a odd size decided to silicone joint which worked.

Here's what you can do to address this issue:
- Check the Salt Level: Ensure that the salt reservoir is filled with dishwasher salt. The dishwasher needs salt to soften the water and improve the cleaning performance. If the salt level is low or empty, refill the reservoir with dishwasher salt.
- Check the Salt Dispenser Cap: Make sure that the salt dispenser cap is securely closed. If it's not closed properly, it can cause the "X" symbol to appear on the display.
- Reset the Dishwasher: Try resetting the dishwasher by turning it off at the mains power supply for a few minutes, then turning it back on. This can sometimes clear error codes and restore normal operation.
- Check for Blockages: Ensure that the salt dispenser and its inlet are free from any blockages or obstructions that could prevent salt from dissolving properly.
- Consult the Manual: If the issue persists, refer to the dishwasher's user manual for troubleshooting steps specific to your model. The manual may provide additional information about error codes and how to resolve them.
If none of these steps resolve the issue and the "X" symbol continues to appear on the display, it may indicate a more significant problem with the dishwasher that requires professional diagnosis and repair. In such cases, contacting Hotpoint customer service or a qualified appliance technician for assistance is recommended.
