Hold your finger on the power button for about 5-7 seconds until the system beeps and the light flashes, the system should restart and you should see the picture and hear the sound now. repeat this process one more time if it still does not work.

If problem remains the same,Pull one of the RCA out of back put finger on cable pin and you should hear AC hum come out of the TV or amp or whatever hooked to. If you do not get a hum the TV is on mute or the amp is on mute.

If you get the hum that means you have a problem in the PS3 then check out following.

You defenetely need to RMS your device to support on the place you buy, or company that made the decoder.
it is inside motherboard problem, and it is not so easy to pin point the problem here. but, yes, you has may be a bad modulator inside for the right signal to keep in right volume.
get it to repair shop.

It's 12 years old. Probably dirty optics. Get a CD cleaning disc from Walmart. They have little brushes to clean the laser lenses.
