Possible that the ink head is blocked. Try a "clean ink head" feature in the maintenance software. If that doesn't work, take a wet soft piece of cloth and gently rub against the ink head until you get fresh ink on the cloth. The water left on the head also softens any dried residue. Be very gentle as this is a delicate part, let the moisture take time. Clean any other areas of residue at the same time.

Best to uninstall the printer software and download and install the software again. Follow the directions to recognize your printer.

If you have an internet connection to your computer than windows 7 will install basic universal printer divers automatically. If it does not install auto then you can find drivers from HP official website. You have just to type the model No. & windows operating system in the search box.

A model number would be useful. Has it printed in colour before? Did this problem happen gradually or just go from colour to black and white with no prior warning? Have you checked ink levels and the drivers for the printer? Are you using genuine HP ink or compatibles? A little more info would get you a solution I imagine.

Scanner optical unit position error.
1/
Check the scanner lock to verify that it is in the unlocked position.
2/ Turn the device off and then turn the device on.
3/ Make sure that the optical unit moves freely and that it is attached to the belt.
4/ Check the scanner motor connector at the scanner control board (connector 10).
5/ If the message persists, replace the scanner.
