Hi! It seems the purge counter has reached its limit, to reset it follow these steps:

1. Press "Menu" and then press *2864 in quick succession ("maint" should displayed and all the lights on the printer should be flashing).
2. Press 80 then keep pressing the black/mono start button until "purge count" is displayed.
3. Press 2783 to reset the purge count.
4. press the stop/exit key.
5. press 99.
6. The printer should return to normal.

You should also purchase a new ink absorber for the printer and install it as soon as possible, it can function like this but requires a replacement.

This works with most Brother printers

Procedure how to reset the error 46 error (unable to clean). This can be done on every Brother inkjet machine with a numeric keypad.

- Machine off
- Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu” button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.
- press 80
- press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx”
- press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000”
- press “99” to exit the maintenance mode

Now you are able to print again, but actually your ink absorber box is now full with ink. Ink flooding can happen if you don’t replace this ink box

Power off the printer.press menu and power on .do'nt release menu button until maintenance appear and flashes fax, scan and copy . type 10 . then next type 49. you will see 00000000.just change last 0 to 1. 00000001. press 99 to exit. you will find the printer only prints B/W only.

Where does the Error message appear? is it on the printer or the PC.



Try a test print from the printer menu

Press Ink
Press up or down to select 'Test Print'
Press up or down to select 'Alignment
Press menu/set
press black start or colour start

The printer should start printing. If this prints ok then the problem is likely to be with the comms between the printer and workstation

You can go to the Brother website and from their you can download the appropriate drivers for your printer.

Hello, for this type of printer, if the printer says the cartridges are empty, you are forced to replace them otherwise, the printer will not print. Go ahead and change the cartridges anyway even though you do not think they are empty. Even if you can see some ink in the cartridges, they are likely empty.
