My Hotpoint WMA58 washing machine is not heating

We had this problem & called our repair man in. We had accidentally knocked the 'Variable Temperature' dial down too low. It should ALWAYS be set to max (95). The programmer will still sort out the correct temperatures for the different programmes, such as cold wash, but setting that to whatever temperature means that that is the max it will ever reach, Since then, we have not had that problem again.

How to change a door seal on a hotpoint wma58

Firstly remove band holding front of seal then remove the screws from the door lock and push lock through.
Remove kick plate from bottom of machine &take out 2 screws holding front of machine.
Remove soap drawer &take out screws behind it then bring facia forward & slide to right to remove. Take care at this stage not to disturb wiring on cicuit board. An extra pair of hands would be helpfull to hold it.
Remove screws holding front as you did at bottom then lift and remove front panel.
Seal is now easily accessed.
Post back if any further assistance needed.
Thankyou for using Fixya.

Hoypoint WMA58 won't empty

As you have probably found out, hotpoint washing machines do not have any customer accessible pump filters...

If you want to get on and fix this yourself you will need to get machine out and tip it up. have a look underneath. You will need tools etc.

1. Firstly check the power is off / disconnected.

**Next double check the power is off / disconnected.**

2. Check for obstructions inside the sump hose leading to the water pump. These machines have a filter/flap located in the sump hose which can get jammed up. See link http://www.4hotpoint.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=636775&brand=&model=WMA58&part=sump

3. My bet is that the pump itself is faulty. Check visually for blockages inside it - (do not dismantly)
For a replacement see the following for info on the pump. http://www.4hotpoint.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=640428&brand=&model=WMA58&part=pump

4. Finally I have heard of hotpoint wma's failing to pump water because the heater element is faulty -because water temp never reaches correct heat so programme halts.- but I cannot confirm this. To prove this put your machine on Final Spin - the first thing it does is empty the machine - no heating...
if it does then its probably the heater.

Regards

And don't forget to rate; thanks!

Cleaning the machine. pipe???

are you using liquid detergent? this has the effect when used for long periods of making the machine smell like drains. if so, put on a boil wash with no clothes and revert to powder detergent. there is a filter which needs clearing if drain is slow.to access, remove bottom panel at back. filter is located in large pipe leading from tub to pump on the lhs. undo this pipe at the tub end and the filter is inside. some water will come out so be prepared. unplug from mains first

Under filling

Check your drain hose. It should be at the same height as the top of your machine. If not high enough, make a loop that is high enough. The water could be syphoning out of machine as it fills.

Blockage

You're quite unlikely to have blocked your drain hose, although you could have kinked it (so check for this first). Failing that, common blockage sites are in the pump chamber, and in the hose connecting the pump to the bottom of the drum - particularly where that is pushed onto the pump. You may also find blockages in the outlet from the drum. It is a pain when manufacturers don't bring the pump out onto the front panel. Best bet is probably to tip the machine backwards against a wall and see if you can get access through the underside. Failing that, remove the back panel and go in that way. Just follow the drain hose, and you'll find the pump. Before you start taking it apart, make sure the power is off, and be prepared for there to be quite a lot of water hiding in that corner of the machine. A.

Over filling with water

There are two reasons could cause washer's overfilling. - A defective water entrance valve - Water supply to the machine is done through an electromagnet valve, loocated at the water pipe's enterance to the machine. A defect in the valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it, and the valve may leak and drip water into the tub.You can easyly open the valve and clean it (from scale or other dirt). Be aware you should disconnect the power cable from the machine before doing it !!!!! and to close water main tap to the machine. In case cleaning doesn't help, you should replace the valve. Water switch level - A diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. Open the rear panel, find the device and clear first any obstruction in the tube.In case it doesn't help, disconnect the wires from the unit (you should disconnect first machine's power cable !!!!!) and measure with a multi-meter on its tugs for continuity and disconnection while you are inhale and blow to its tube. In case it will not react, you should replace it. Good luck !!
