This is probably the reason or the armature is worn.
You need to remove the motor and check the brushes, replace them if less than 3-5mm long.
When the wash cycle reaches spin, the programme
Hi.
The appliance will not advance to spin until the drain part of the cycle is complete. This problem is commonly caused by faults affecting the drain part of the cycle.
Check drain hose at the back of the appliance.
Access the hose connected to drain pump by removing the fascia trim at the base of the appliance, on the front side. There you will find access to drain pump, rotate and remove the cap; be prepared to collect a good amount of water in there. Open and remove eventual blockage.
Operations are often illustrated in the user manual.
Disconnect power first.
If that does not fix the problem, then parts that must be tested and eventually replaced are pressure switch and door latch.
The pressure switch is the device that detects water level. The pressure switch detects water level and send an impuls to central control unit to advance cycle to spin when there is no more water.
If the pressure switch is malfunctioning, then the machine does not advance to spin.
The pressure switch is difficult to test (you need to read impedance with tub full and empty, or to read volts when cycling. The pressure switch is not an expensive part. It is tested summarily by blowing in the hose attached to the switch and cleaning it. If that does not work, then the switch gets replaced.
The door latch is double checked by timer control before advancing to spin. A defective door latch mechanism or switch may prevent the appliance from advancing to the spin part of the cycle.
Additionally, if the machine trips out circuit breaker whenever the spin part of the cycle is reached, then there may be a short in wiring to motor, a faulty motor control unit, a faulty central control unit, or even a defective motor.
In that case the repair is more complicate, and the technician will need to test all the parts listed above.
At user level, all that can be done is inspecting wiring and looking for burnt spots in wiring to central control unit, or for evident faults that can be seen checking the parts (eg.melting components or wires).
Regards.

How do i replace drum berings on a hotpoint wma40
the bearings are about $20,the lip-seal to protect the bearings from water is about $45,and if you hire it done you need to find out the labor rates in your area,it can take from 2-7 hours to complete depending on how hard the old water soaked and rusted bearings come out of the bore
The machine fills up but will not drain or spin, I
First, if there is still water in the drum lower the outlet hose into a bowl and if no water comes out then you have a blockage but if water flows out then the pump is at fault. To clear a blocked filter on a WMA machine which still has water in it, first tilt the machine backwards and open the door, bail out the contents of the drum with a mug or sponge untill it is as empty as you can get it. Now lower the machine back down again and remove the lower inspection panel at the back of the cabinet now tilt the machine forward.....place a tin of soup or something under it to hold it in a tilted possition, then put a bowl or deep oven dish under the sump to catch any remaining water when it is removed. Undo the retaining clip around the sump hose and disengage it from the container, the filter is inside the hose and can be taken out to be cleaned.Click the links for Workshop manuals on Hotpoint

The water level on the Hotpoint WMA range of machine should be below the door, check out the error code definition at this
site. You probably have a pressure chamber blockage or partial blockage. There are also workshop manuals for the Hotpoint
WMA &
WM machines which run through this sort of repair.
My washing machine won.t spin or turn so could it
I would try the brushes before replacing the motor, or you may have a broken wire. Before attempting any repair unplug the machine from the mains. The brushes on these motors are held in with 2 screws and although it may be a bit awkward they can be changed while the motor is still attached to the machine, but it will mean tilting the appliance so it is resting against something rather than just proping it up . It will fill with water empty but not spin or turn
If I understand correctly ... If fills with water and drains fine but it will not agitate or spin? This sounds like a broken belt or a bad motor. I would recommend that you call a service tech. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Will not spin
Sounds like your motor brushes have gone, if the machine is taking away the water, then this is most likly cause for no spin.To check this you need to remove your motor, then using a screwdriver remove the 2 plastic black sleeves on each side of the motor. Inside the sleeve there are 2 carbons 1 in each, these should be at least half inch long. If these are worn then they need replacing. New ones will cost around about £17.00 if you do them yourself
It is moving when spinning
Could be caused by unbalanced load, or broken suspension spring, worn or broken shock absorber, and it is very important that the washer is perfectly level.
Hope this helps.
