Hi there.

Your monitor may be going into power saving mode.
This problem could be that your Power Options in the Control Panel have been switched to "switch off the component every now and then to save power". To change this, do the following:

1) Navigate to the Control Panel by clicking Start and then Control Panel. Then double click on Power Options as shown below circled in red.
slasher_x_14.jpg
2) This will then display the Power Options window as shown below.
slasher_x_16.jpg
3) Once you have opened the Power Option Properties, under Power Schemes select the one that best suits your PC system.
slasher_x_15.jpg
4) Then you can select whether or not to switch off your monitor and/or hard drives after a period of time when it is not being used.

If you have your PC on most of the time then I suggest you select Never as the turn off option for both your hard drive and monitor. If you are using a laptop the turning off the hard drive and screen can however save on battery power when the laptop is not in use.

If your problem persists then it might just be as simple as a loose connection, make sure all hard drive connectors are firmly inserted and that your monitor display plug is correctly plugged into your display card or onboard display correctly.

If your hard drive persists with this problem then it may be a faulty dive. I suggest you take the drive to a PC technician and have them check if it's faulty or malfunctioning.

If you can faintly see your desktop background on the monitor that switches off then check my tip about LCD backlighting issues: http://www.fixya.com/support/r6836567-lcd_monitor_displays_background_fine

If you are unable to boot up and when you switch on your PC you get a series of long beeps from your motherboard then it's either your RAM or graphics card that is faulty.

Good Day Gmariamd!

A beep codes has different meaning. Depending on the number of beeps and the series of short or long beeps.

But most frequently, a beeps were heard when a video card and or memory card is loosened. You may need to remove it from the motherboard and reseat them properly on the slot of the motherboard. Just remember when you do it computer must be off.

Try holding a flashlight (or other very bright light) an inch or two away from the screen while it's on. If you can see your background very faintly, then the backlighting of your monitor has gone out.
There are a lot of tutorials on how to replace backlighting (like this one: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Replace-a-LCD-Backlight/ ) or you can just buy a new monitor.
If you can't see anything with the flashlight, then it might be a bad capacitor, which is usually about the same in cost and labor as a new monitor.

Seems to be a problem with power / invertor board. Bulging leaky capacitors maybe a probable cause.

Hey there,

This monitor has built in speakers, but does NOT have audio input for a microphone.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed HP/COMPAQ and other monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

If this monitor is actually losing power, check the power cord on the monitor and the wall outlet, if it loose replace it. If is is snug is any other device losing power, if the answer is now then probably the monitor is defective.

You need to run a cable from the "line-out" (GREEN) socket on your computer's audio-device to the "line-in" socket on the monitor.

Try and replace the three Elite 16V 1000µF caps, especially if they are swollen.
Worked for a "Power on-then off" monitor of a friend of mine recently. Case easy to open, gotta find hidden screws to drop base. Let me know if it worked

You may have a faulty inverter board or defective CCFL lamp. A faulty CCFL lamp may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering and/or with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. Usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter board can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Does it turn on? Check the power cord and monitor connections for power, monitor and computer.

Compaq FP 7317... • Answered on Jul 12, 2010

There could be some faulty capacitors on the inverter board which are buldging or leaky.
