This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Take out the battery and the AC cord. Turn the camera on (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.Turn camera to off setting.Plug battery or AC cord back in.

After doing this, my camera accepted the tape - door stayed shut and tape descended into the camera.

Panasonic did not create any drivers for windows 7 for this unit. As an option, try to use a firewire connection then use WINDV software. You can download the software from here.
