My monitor will only stay on for a few second and

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the badparts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor shouldwork fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct +and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the newone the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offera repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so pleaserate my solution.

My son inadvertantly caused Windows XP to crash;

Hi There: It sounds to me like it's your video card. Look for the drivers for it. This will usually happen if it is an after market card or the drivers are not on the drivers disk. If you have a disk for it fine. If not go to your device manager and see if it can find drivers for it. The fact the monitor is giving you lo res tells me it is working. It's just getting a lo res from the video card. I hope this helps, Jeff.

Dell monitor 15 inch the green light stays on but no picture

It's the backlight supply tripping out from backlight failure, but the thing still stays on. I got it to act right by switching to factory presets with some fast menu action once, but the general solution is going to involve tricking the backlight into staying on; you can look at the thing in bright ambient light to see that the display is still working, but of course without a backlight it's pretty much useless.

Since $100 buys a better and more efficient monitor, just replace it; otherwise of course you can either replace the backlight (or go for one of the projector mods) or convince its drive circuit to put up with it a bit longer. I spotted a bad capacitor but swapping that out hasn't gone well yet....

I am having a problem

Hi, i'm having problems understanding the code for selection sort.

From what i understood the 2 nested for loops keep taking an entry in the array at position i and another entry in the array in position i+1 and comparing them until the the index reaches the end of the array.

i don't understand how do i end up with a sorted list this way.

for instance if i have

5 3 4 1
so after comparing the first two it'll be:
3 5 4 1
then the next two
3 4 5 1
and the last two
3 4 1 5

and then exiting?!

what am i missing ?!

? dell monitor to compac ?

Since you didn't post the Model of the Compac, All I can give you is some general information.

1st, does the monitor work on another system? (Is it a known good monitor?)

If it works on another system, then the issue is with the system, or the connection to the system.

Check the connection to the system (Some systems have both on-board and expansion video cards, if the system has an expansion card the on-board video is usually disabled)

Make sure the cable is correctly connected to both the system and the monitor and no pins are bent.

If the monitor has not been tested, then try connecting it to a system you know that works.

Monitor not working properly after a windowxp re-instalation

It sounds as though you need to install drivers for the hardware that is not working properly after your re-formatting and re-installation of windows.I have found that although windows xp will provide almost any drivers needed, many drivers for Dell systems are not. Just to check which hardware is not working properly, go to the start button, go to control panel, then performance and maintainance, then system, next hardware, and finally device manager. Any hardware listed that has a yellow question mark to the left is not working properly, most likely because the drivers are not installed. The easiest solution is if you have the original CD's that came with your computer. If you do, and you have one that is labeled " resource CD ", or if it is labeled that it contains the device drivers for the hardware not working your task should be relatively easy. Just insert the disc, it should auto start, if it does not, start it manually from my computer. It will automatically provide the drivers needed. If you do not have the CD needed, you can write down the specifics of the hardware not working from the device manager by clicking on each item and going to properties. After you have that information, go to the following Dell website and manually look for and download the drivers you need. Good Luck. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Dell powers on no display on monitor

hi try this :
Monitor Problems:

THE COMPUTERS SEEMS TO BE WORKING, BUT THE SCREEN IS BLANK.
- Check the monitor if turned on.
- Check all the LED power on the monitor, if it has one.
- Adjust brightness and contrast controls all the way to the maximum.
- Check the video cable from the monitor to the computer to be sure if it is properly connected.
- Check the power cable. If it is connected properly at both ends.
- Try different monitor on your computer. If it does not work, the display card is likely at fault. Replace the display card.
- Try your monitor on a different computer. If it does not work, replace the monitor or have it repaired by a trained technician.

COMPUTER BOOTS, BUT DISPLAYS “JUNK” ON THE SCREEN
- It may be that the display card is defective. Try a different card. If it works the first card may be bad.
- Try the suspected bad card on another computer. If it displays the same thing it is conclusive that the card is bad.

DISPLAY IS DIM, OVERLY BRIGHT, OR BLURRY, OR UNPLEASANT.DISPLAY IS OFF CENTER. LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE OF MONITOR IS OBSCURED.
- Try adjusting the control knobs located on either the front or back of the monitor. It maybe necessary o open the monitors casing to get the proper adjustment controls. In this case be very careful because there are high voltages in the monitor.
THE VIDEO DISPLAY FADES AND BRIGHTENS, OR IS WARY.
- The voltage may be fluctuating due to so many appliances or electric devices on he same branch circuit.
- Turn off other appliances and peripherals, such as printers, external modem, refrigerator, microwave oven, transformer, etc. and see if that solves the problem. If the problem persists, try swapping out the display cards. If changing the monitor solved the problem, repair or replace the monitor.
IMAGE IS NOT STRAIGHT ACROSS THE SCREEN
- If the monitor is still under warranty, bring it back to the dealer for adjustment. If the you want to do it your self, bare in mind that this is potentially dangerous procedure because it must be done while he monitor is on and there is very high voltages around the picture tube.
WARNING: THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROCEDURE!!!
- Open the monitor casing and loosen the clamp holding he coils around he picture tube. You can loosen them (usually there’s a wing nut) and a rotate the coil assembly until the picture strengthens.

Dell E173FPb 17" Monitor

You should NEVER give out your service tag, That is the one thing that will tie you directly to your computer and the purchase from Dell. There are alot of scams based on people asking for your service tag, its kind of like your bank account number, there is no reason you should ever give it out. However, if you call Dell or chat in to tech support this is something they will replace the monitor for. just tell them that you have an issue with your monitor and you have tried it on more than 1 computer. I would also recommend not telling them that it initially comes on because they will make you do another round of troubleshooting as a result, just tell them the green light is on and there is no picture, even when you unplug the monitor cable. if it is still in warranty they will promptly replace it for you. Not to beat a dead horse, but NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR SERVICE TAG!! you could end up with a huge bill as a result. people can call in and order bogus replacement parts and really screw you over.

Good Luck!

Stay Classy

On the monitor there should be some buttons that allow you to manually configure the width and hieght that the screen comes up with.
Does you screen come up squashed but you can still see everything or only 1/3 of the screen is shown and the rest is black.

SCREEN FLASHES, PINK STRIPES , SOMETIMES BLANKS TO BLACK THEN ON

This issue could be either the Monitor inverter failing or it could be your Video card. If you have another computer available, plug the monitor into a different computer and see if you get the same behavior, if you do, then the monitor is failing and needs to be replaced. If on a different computer it works fine, then you may have a video card failing. Does it seem to happen the longer the monitor is on? Could be as it heats up, it starts to fail.
