Dell 2405FPW - No Picture.
woliphint, Did you try Dell to see if they can do a swapout? You send them your's +$40-$90 and they send you a refurbished same model with new CCF tubes+power supply/inverter? A lot of LCD/FPD displays have been subject to having their SMPS's fail due to poor quality electrolytic filter capacitors that can't endure the thermal stress inside the display. Nearly all brands are affected, not just Dell. See what you get when you search web for 'swollen caps' or 'bad caps in lcd's' or 'lcd repairs' or 'monitor re-capping' or similar type of search. You should always state age or approximate usage hours of the monitor when posting to fixya. We don't know when a 2405FPW was produced and sold. As long as you haven't cracked, shattered, or abused the LCD panel you should be able to get it swapped and or repaired. I'm louie12fix on fixya or

Bye for now.
Grey smudge like images on the screen.
Most possibly those are dead pixels. Those cannot be fixed in most cases. some software and some technic may help but that is not a confirm solution. please take it to the service center or talk them if still the warranty is valid and it covers the facts of dead pixels till date.
My screen has gone black
try to reseat the vga cable of the monitor, reseat at the back of the computer and on the monitor,if the cable is disconnected, make sure that you can see the power on self test with different colors in it,if you cant see it then your monitor went bad,try to connect another monitor to your computer, see what will happen, try using other cables as well
Photo card reader not working
i had the same problem and it turned out i needed a usb cable in addition to the monitor cable. found a cable on an old printer pluged it in and .... presto... "new hardware found"
Monitor goes black after being on for about 20 minutes
This might be related to your system power options, if your monitor turns off after sometime (20 mins in this case) the best way to find out if this is caused due to a thermal reason - is to see if the monitor can work immediately after it turns off (coz, for thermal shutdowns it needs time to cool down before it works again)
Broken plastic function button replacement?
Looks more like the tact switches inside the unit are history and have to be replaced. The switches are relatively cheap $2-$3 each, but replacing them inside the monitor needs some skills...;)
Rotating screen view
To change the orientation of the display you need to change settings on the video card properties. Just physically changing the orientation of the LCD will not change the display on it. (Generic options to follow are : Right click on desktop > click properties > click tab settings > click advanced > click on tab of video card name > you should find the rotation option on this window)
NOTE : if these options are not available, high probability that your video card does not support orientation / rotation of display.
Use hdmi out on 2408 display
No, won't work as teh monitor does not have sound capabilities. However, this will work if you have some sound input into the monitor, like if you use the HDMI (which includes sound) to send signals to the monitor, instead of the VGA / DVI connector. (All sound output on a system is from the sound card on the system only, monitor sound options are usually just an extension of the same)
MONITOR
if the lines disappear when you put your cursor to the line, its probably the Drivers causing the issue. Please download the latest video driver for your video card and install the same - should resolve the issue (Alt : you could try to change the resolution too)
New Monitor in my computer using a xp profesional
Restart your system and keep tapping the F8 Key as soon as you start the system. you should be at an advanced OS options menu, select SafeMode with VGA and proceed to logon to windows. Once in windows, right click on your desktop > properties > Settings > reduce settings to 800x600 > click OK > restart system. Now the display should be back on the monitor. Now read the manual to understand the highest supported resolution for this monitor + set the same as mentioned before on your system.
Dell 2405FPW LCD Severe Flickring
The symptom you describe is typical of a thermal problem in the display. It might be in the LCD panel itself, in which case the only repair is to replace the display. It could also be in a component on the main board, and spray component cooler can be used to selectively chill parts to see if it has any effect. Even then, though, it's usually large-scale integrated circuits on these board that have go bad. Even if you can find a source for the part, changing it normally requires tools and techniques beyond almost every shop. Even the manufacturers "repair" these by simply replacing the entire board.
Sad to say, if this isn't covered by some kind of repair warranty, replacement might be your only option.
Problem with DELL 2408WFP
I have similar problem. I'm using the HDMI connection from my PC to the monitor and when I connect my audio out from the monitor I get hissing and popping sounds along with the audio. It sounds pathetic, I also hear the music and audio along with the hissing and popping.
If I connect the audio to the back of the PC the sound is crystal Clear. I am using Vista 64 bit with NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT video card. Trying to Google to see if others are are seeing the same problem. I just got my monitor on Oct 6.
