Gateway FPD1960 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor - Page 3 Questions & Answers
It seems that the red is missing from the color
Verify the cables and the connector pins of your monitor, at both cable ends. Ensure the cable is properly connected and the retainer screws are tight. A primary color's disappearance on a (S)VGA monitor is usually caused by a faulty contact in the connector (if you can, verify the cable also by switching with another PC's).
IC Power 19'' LCD-Will not Power Up- No Lites.
This is a follow up to my last submission about my discovery of bad caps on the FPD1960 LCD flat screen Gateway 19" computer monitor. To recap: After two and a half years of excellent graphics quality, my monitor suddenly went blackout. After pushing the power-on button, the screen would come on for 1-second, then go black. Repeat, again and again, same result; comes on for 1 second then blackout. THE REPAIR: After carefully but forcefully prying open the case, I unscrewed and unplugged then removed the screen and set it aside, then unscrewed and removed the power supply board. Sure as shootin, bulging (and slightly leaking) capacitors were immdiately apparant on this board. That other fella's submission was right on target. Search Wikipedia for "bulging capacitors" to get the inside scoop on this widespread problem. Major manufacturers are well aware of this issue, but fortunately for them it occurs some 2-years out'a the box, and after the warranty expires. This is one time I wish I'd bought the extended warranty! Anyway, I finally got my 5 caps from Ebay in the mail today. Specifically, they are 470uF 25volt 105-degree (use only 105's because some are right near a power transister heat sink---so I'll bet they get mighty friggin hot. After carefully replacing the old caps with the new (you'll need a solder ****** along with your solder iron), I reassembled, powered-up, and began to thoroughly enjoy the fruits of my labor. It's working like new once again. THE CAPS ON THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD ARE DEFECTIVE.
When you power up 1 side of the screen has
sounds like your screen has a bunch of dead pixles on it unless your under warrenty you will pretty much have to purchase another but before you come to this decision make shure and look at you cable on your connection make sure there are no bent or missing pins and that it is secure and the the video card is secure
I have a gateway that is plugged in but continuous
bailerie, Gateway and most all other LCD displays DON'T know how to reboot! They have NO need to do that! You must tell me what you see when you RECONNECT FPD1960 to a already fully booted, KNOWN GOOD pc that is currently displaying the WIN-desktop! Then and only then power-up the 1960 unit and observe what is going on and for how long! The only guess I can make about this problem is this. The "switch-mode-power-supply" inside your monitor is cycling IN and OUT of SHUTDOWN MODE because it has detected a FAULT of some kind with another circuit or even with itself. Get back to us so we can further help you. 12fixlouie Bye for now.
Gateway fpd1960 19in. flatscreen lcd monitor has
checkl in your menu or settings if you have inout it to VGA signal...have you tried other mintor in your current CPU if it works? you can scan the input of the signal from your menu and it should be VGA input.
Gateway 900G does not stay on, has power
the_princes, On the rear side of LCD screen that you look at are two each long, straight, cold-cathode-fluorescent-tubes that need to "LIGHT-UP"and provide pure WHITE light to be reflected through the LCD glass panel that you look at from the front side! If you don't have any luck with Gateway providing warranty service or doing a swapout with them, then you should possibly look into having it Refurbished by someone locally in your area. I highly recommend that you go to youtube and watch some video clips of LCD MONITOR REPAIR to see exactly what you are getting involved with. When making a post to tthis site you should always give some "history" along with the trouble "symptom" such as how old is unit and approximate total amount of "ON" time the unit has. I hope you can use the info provided. I'm louie12fix on fixya or

Flickering halo around each word of text and each
Petervzt, Gee wiz, I wonder how long they think these monitors will last?? Till 2019 I guess!!! Pete, if you don't have any expertise using a soldering pencil/iron , DVM, DMM, LCR meter and /or 30mhz oscilloscope then you will not be able to even attempt to repair this unit. The most likely failure will be in the "switch-mode-power-supply" and/or "inverter-supply" circuit. Check with Viewsonic for information on doing a SWAPOUT For cash+your old unit. you get a refurbished model with new CCFT's inverter board/SMPS. But that's only if they have a swapout prog. If you snoop around on fixya you should be able to find a place to get it fixed for less than a C note. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com
Monitor problem. Monitor was working
Same prob here..except mine occured next use--outlet has power--cables
are secure-just NO light on button--i'm thinking power supply button or
board--I have found these parts on e-bay for 15.00--will let U know if
it works
Turns on then gives a High pitched Screech then
are you talking about just the monitor of the computer as a whole?
if you are talking about the computer then, there is something loose inside the case, which is causing the high pitched sound.
Black screen after a couple of seconds
The monitor needs to be replaced. I had an LG LCD that did this luckily it was still under warranty. Contact the maker and have your receipt handy. Otherwise buy a new monitor. Monitors tend to be replacement only
Gateway monitor, black screen with blinking power button
wjfarm48, Sure sounds like a power supply problem. How old is it? How many hours of use? Do you understand what a switch-mode-power-supply and an inverter supply is? If not, then here are your options. Check with Gateway to see if there is a swapout program. You box up and ship them your monitor+cash, and they return a REFURBISHED same model with new CCF tubes and inverter/SMPS. When you box up the monitor, follow this lead. "A 3 inch thick layer of breathable air shall be the only thing touching the lcd front panel" Next option is find some local TV/Monitor repair guy who can get parts and or replacement boards/CCFtubes from Gateway. Last but not least, is to repair yourself. Not Recomended.. But do a search on lcd monitor repair or Bad Capacitors In LCD Monitors or Repair of SMPS in LCD/FPD Monitors. Also check for videos on YouTUBE related to lcd monitor repair just for your own info. Here 's what you are dealing with. The light that makes your FPD bright white is generated by Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tubes (2) that require 600-1200vac at high frequency that is generated by an INVERTER which gets 12-24vdc from the SMPS. Almost the same technology is used in the new style screw-in curlie-que Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. Only they call the inverter a electronic ballast. Anyway, thats about all the info I have. Let me know how you make out in you quest to get your LCD up and running again. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com BYE for now.
Frequency out of range
You need to install the video drivers for your monitor. Go into SAFE mode to install them.
Monitor
First thing to do is to try another monitor to confirm that it is the monitor and not the video section of the computer. After confirmation,it may be too costly to have the monitor repaired and may be cheeper to just replace it.
Gateway fpd 1960 goes black intermittently
Your inverter is dying. It produces ~2k volts for the ccfl (cold cathode fluorescent lights) that surround your display. At a few milliamps. Probably bad or leaking capacitors on the inverter or power supply board. So it is either using too much power (bad ccfl) or a weakening power supply (higher likely).
It could be cold solder connections becoming intermittent. Remove the base, remove the screws on the backside, and split the case CAREFULLY. Inspect the power supply and inverter for obvious failure or leaking capacitors. Replace same... If your lucky, it will work.

Gateway fpd1960 tft lcd monitor has blotchy color lines across screen.
You likely have a bad 'controller' board, the one that converts the analog monitor signal into Row and Column addresses to tell the screen which pixels to light up, and which color. You may have a loose connection where ribbon cables connect to the board or the LCD panel, but you'd have to take it apart to see.
Likely the monitor part would be prohibitively expensive when you add in labor costs. If I owned it, I'd take it apart a bit and check for loose things...
