Possible fault in the display unit , either the LCD drive has failed or a pico fuse has blown inside.
Remove battery and insert after sometime and see if there is any signs of picture coming in and then getting blank. If so the display processing is faulty.
It will be better to get the camcorder checked by the JVC service for an estimation to decide.

Does your laptop...or pc have an IEEE1394 port? If so, you can use that. If not, the PC will need an IEEE 1394 card. You can also use a Firewire/USB hub. That will allow you to make the connection also. Let me know if that helped.
Can't install a tape
Unplug it from power and disconnect the battery. Hit the reset button then wait about 15 minutes. Afterwards, you can plug it back in or connect the battery and it should be business as usual. If it shows the error code 3 times in a row, then take it to a shop.

DV Out/In cable missing
You need a Firewire (also called IEEE1394) cable to transfer DV to your computer. I buy mine here, usually:

There are 4-pin, 6-pin, and 9-pin Firewire connectors. Virtually all camcorders sport the 4-pin variety. Most PC laptops do as well (if there's a built-in port) so for camcorder interface, you would need a 4-pin to 4-pin cable. Most PC desktops that support Firewire use the 6-pin cable, so you would buy a 6-pin to 4-pin cable to hook up to the camcorder. Some Apple Macintosh computers and high-end PCs may support an 9-pin port as well, which is the newer, faster version of Firewire, but offers no advantage when talking to a camcorder.
If you haven't used your computer with a Firewire device before, do make sure you have one. These are available as PCI cards, PCIexpress cards, PC cards, and ExpressPort cards. It's pretty common for a modern desktop PC to have one or two Firewire ports. They're not uncommon on laptops, but do check.
