JVC DR-760U: When the tape is playing, it feels like there is a flat spot on the wheel. It 'clunks' as it rotates, causing a skip in the sound and video both. Same during ffwd or rewd, only faster.
The pinch wheel has been left in contact with the spindle for an extended period when out of use, causing this. Get the pinch wheel replaced.

Get the tapes professionally transferred to DVD before they deteriorate. As for the camcorder, any repair would not be cost-effective.
