How do I transfer videos from a sony handycam ccd-tr416 to my laptop?

You need a video capture tool (Composite A/V to USB dongle) and the software for it. TigerDirect has a number of them: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1428 . Walmart and Amazon also have these devices. You'll need to know the OS (particularly the 32-bit or 64-bit designation if you have XP or higher) for your laptop. Then check to make sure that the manufacturer of the dongle has written drivers for your OS. You'll have to decide whether to use the L or R audio channel on the dongle. I hope this helps. I have a sonyccd-how can i transfer hi8tapes to dvd

You can connect the Camcorder to a Computer using A/V cable if it does have an analog a/v input. Otherwise, you may go for a stand alone DVD recorder to connect the Camcorder and directly make DVDs from it.

Very grainy playback

Same problem with my Sony CCD-TR416 recently. Know what finally worked? With camera playing a tape, I picked up the camera and tapped it sharply on a solid desktop. Had to do it 3 times. I held the camera with two hands, one on each side of the camera, raised it about 3 to 5 inches off the desktop and then quickly tapped it on the desk holding the camera parallel to the desktop so that it solidly hit with all of the lower surface of the camera body.

I know it sounds crazy. I swear it worked. I had tried cleaning the heads over and over. I examined them with a 20x loupe and they looked fine. I doubt that the problem was oxide and debris build-up on the heads.

I planned to order a new head/drum just to see if I could manage the replacement procedure by myself (I'm a chronic do-it-yourselfer/experimenter). I guess I don't need to do that now.

Why did the slam technique work? My guess: Inside the rotating head, there must be some sort of electronic track like the brushes of a motor or something similar.. Some sort of debris must have been involved in a corruption of the transfer of impulses from the heads. A few taps and it broke free.

If banging it on the desk didn't work, I was next planning to remove the drum to check for bad connections. I'm sorry I didn't have to do that.

Nevertheless, don't listen to everyone when they say that the "heads must be dirty." Nope. With the loupe, I could see mine were sparkling clean. But, I still had those multiple horizontal rows of short white streaks obliterating the video image. Tap. Tap. Tap. Now they're gone.

Try it. Couldn't hurt. Though chances are, you won't see this. I'm posting 6 months after your original post. I just happened upon your post as I researched the problem through Google. Neverthelss, someone might see my response someday and maybe they, too, will get luck with the tap, tap, tap procedure.

Can not eject tape

I had same problem, while transferring media from TRV-16 to DVD, tape would not play, then would not eject. This after transferring several tapes to DVD. I tried several things over the last couple months that did not work before finally getting it open today. It did me no good to remove several of the outer panels that were each held by two "tiny" phillips head screws each. Went to the internet, found your post, also found a post that referred me back to SONY page which follows.......

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.
IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.
"NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required."

After I did this, I could hear a whirring sound when I hit eject, although nothing came out. While the whirring was going on, I pulled up and out with constant pressure and the cassette holder opened. The tape had jammed apparently as the little protective plastic tape guard was jammed partially open when I pulled the cassette out. Good Luck and don't be afraid to put a little pressure on the door if you can hear the door trying to open.

Now I turn to recovering the tape, but having grown up with cassette decks, don't believe it will be a problem.

Tape door wont close on my Sony CCD-TR416

Try this for anyone having this issue:

Take? OUT the battery or disconnect the AC cord.
Turn the camera ON (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.
Turn camera to off setting.
Plug battery or AC cord back in.
Worked for me and I had the stupid C32:11 error code for weeks! Door would not close. Followed the SIMPLE and SAFE instructions and IT WORKED! Just like magic. I couldn't believe it! Save your money TRY THIS!

What we did was to buy a secondhand camera of the same type at little cost, transfer the old films with our DVD recorder (if the recorder has a hard drive it makes editing a cinch), and then sell the camera back to someone who wanted to do the same!

Sony ccd-trv43 showing c:32:00?

Error Code = C:32:00 - Tape will not eject... I found that the Camcorder ate the tape and the tape was rapped all up inside the Camcorder, preventing the tape from ejecting. I took the Camcorder entirely apart and removed the tape manually and re-assembled the Camcorder. When finished there were no extra parts or screws and my Camcorder works perfectly once again. However, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this procedure if you are not confidant that you can disassemble and re-assemble your Camcorder.
