• First thing to check is cable.

1. Make sure it's seated properly in monitor and computer. If problem persists go to point 2.
2. Test cable in different computer/monitor configuration to make sure cable is OK. If not replace the cable.
3. Test Monitor with different PC if all above fail.

• See if your computer works with any other monitors because if computer is at fault it's a completely different troubleshooting procedure.

There is a small microswitch on most laptops that when the lid is closed turns the backlight off to save power, check to see it's not obstructed. It could also be a faulty inverter which powers the backlight, this will need replacing if this is the case

If it works with another PC OK, then you may have problem in your PC Video card, try reseating the video card if you can, also the RAM sticks. If the video card is part of the mother board then there may be nothing that you can do.

Don't attempt this unless you're comfortable with soldering. Be very careful, because hooking the pins up wrong could damage your monitor, your computer or both. You'll need a male VGA connector and a shell for it. Cut off the old connector and strip away the outer insulation on the cable so you can see what color cables go to which pins, then just make the same connections to the new VGA plug. Double-check everything--you may only get one shot at this.

It would appear that your Monitor has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur.

You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done.

Laptop hard drives are mainly located underneath. A screw holding down a plastic lid covers the drive. In some cases of older laptops the hard drive is slot mounted and you'll have to remove screws underneath and/or on the side to release the drive followed by pushing a switch which well push the drive out.

get the monitor that you used previously, and on the Windows desktop, go to display properties, in settings> advanced, under the monitor tab, change the refresh rate to 60, which is common on these flat panels.

The model number for the laptop should be on the bottom of the laptop. As well so should the license key for the operating system. Depending on the operating system and/or the manufacturer it may also be in a file on the laptop itself.

I would suspect an electrical component is failing. Try your monitor on another computer and see if it does the same thing. If it does, the monitor is failing. Also/Or try another monitor on your computer. If the new monitor does the same as the old monitor, then maybe the video card in your computer is failing. Try a new video card. Keep trying different component combinations until you decide what has to be failing.

KDS seems to use a 4-digit model number for laptop boards and there is a a '6481' type number.

Have you actually purchased Visio, or are you just trying to get it for free?
As a software guy, I would have to advise against piracy. :)
There are several ways to get Visio for cheap. If you are a student, there are discounted versions available online and in stores. Also, you can check with your school for even cheaper options sometimes. Try the university bookstore if available. Or a Computer Science department maybe.
If you are working, and your company uses MS Office applications, find out if they have the "Microsoft at Home" program. You can get MS Office applications for really cheap that way. I can get Visio through my company's "Microsoft at Home" program for a few dollars.
