You should be able to use the RCA connections (yellow/red/white) and plug it directly into a VCR to record. This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly or a defective clutch in the take-up spool and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. This small back-up battery on my Sony is under the main big power battery, it is like a large screw under the main power pack, I just turn that screw and the little round lid comes off to get to the little silver flat back-up one.
They are readily available from most good camera shops like Jesops for around £12 to £15 each.

Just make sure door is shut and clipped and keep trying, it will release after a few goes.

I'm afraid, its mechanical problem in your DCR-TRV30 camcorder and visual check is necessary to inspect mechanism function properly to diagnose problem.
Beeping and displaying error sign is an indication that camera got problem for some reason and there are many possible causes for that like capstan motor is not rotating or rotating on fast speed, video head motor is not spinning, any loading gear got broken, above said motors are not getting power etc etc.
Take your camcorder in nearest local camera repair shop to diagnose problem.

This worked for me: With camera power on, push RESET (located left of the rec button in the main panel).

use s video cord or red white yellow cord to connect. camera comes with a grey adapter patch cord that will help do that easily.

If tape flap will stuck or turned like below image, tape wont be pulled out.

there should be a "hidden"hole for it on the camera,it will have A/V-out near it.
usualy its covered by a rubber cover/plug.

IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AROUND THE FRONT OF YOUR CAMERA THERE ARE SEVERAL SCREWS, ABOUT 4 I THINK,
1) 1 ON BASE
2) 1 ON THE LEFT LOOKING AT FROM THE FRONT
3) AND 2 INSIDE THE FLASH CASE
REMOVE THESE SCREWS AND THEN YOUR FOCUS RING AND SOME OF THE CASE SHOULD COME OFF
INSIDE THE FOCUS RING YOU SHOULD SEE 3 SREWS IF NOT CHECK THE CAMERA TO SEE IF THEY HAVE FALLEN INSIDE,
IF NO JOY YOU CAN REPLACE THE 3 MISSING SCREWS AND PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER

hi sounds like the screw that holds the ccd is gone but its inside you say it all works good....? put a SMALL!!! drop of "superglue" (3 sec glue) it will hold nice good luck

If it were worth repairing, as a Sony agent, I would replace all of the capacitors and clean up the board then reset the mechanism and test. Probably too old being 2001 vintage.
