Please help me know how

This type of camera usually downloads better with a Firewire (Sony call this i.Link) connection. Some mini-DV and D8 cameras only use the USB connection (if they have one) for stills and can ONLY download video by Firewire. This is because you have to play the tape into the computer, not just copy a file. I

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My camera came with the correct lead.

There is a Sony tutorial page for downloading at THIS LINK You will need to select Windows as the operating system, then Digital8 as the camera type, then select the type of connection. As you will see, the USB option warns that it won't work with many cameras, and you are strongly recommended to use i.Link (which everyone else calls Firewire).

Error c:31:23 keeps flashing on

oops! That part belongs inside the tape drive - it's probably a tape post. You'll need to have it repaired - the error you're getting is a mechanical error. Which make sense because a part is missing.

How do I transfer my 8mm tapes to the PC? I'm

You will use the DV (firewire) jack on your camcorder. This is located under your A/V out jack (towards the front of the camcorder under the light). Depending on what type of connector your computer has, you will need to get a firewire cable (also known as IEEE-1394a cable). The connector on your camcorder is a 4-pin connector. You will either have that same looking connector on your computer (some laptops now have the 4-pin connector) or a 6-pin connector (D shaped). 884068d.jpg
This pic is of a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. These are available at many electronic stores and online. To be safe, have your camcorder powered off when connecting to the computer. Once you have connected the cables, turn your camcorder on (playback mode) and insert the tape that you would like to transfer. Your computer should recognize it and install the appropriate driver. Most computers have some sort of free video editing program (like Windows Movie Maker). Depending on the software, you may have the option to import the entire video tape or only parts.

Hope this helps you.

How do I erase a

on this model sony it does not have an erase feature. I have called sony and confirmed this. The feature that would do that is called flying erase heads. So your option would be to either record over the tape or buy a player than can erase but a eraser is 300$usd-400$usd which really isnt cost effective just to erase a tape.

I can not akcess the usb with sony handycam

Hello camera user,
The reason the Sony cannot see the USB is because camera drivers are not built-in Windows Vista and Windows 7, but if your camera has a Firewire plug like most (Small square type) marked with a windmill marking near it you are in luck, that is Firewire, thing then is to look to see if your PC has Firewire, that is a socket again marked with windmill.
Good luck,
from
David
