Sony Dvcam DSR-PD170 DV Digital Camcorder - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I have a sony dsr-pd170
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. Back
focus problem is a very common on these Camcorders. Even this issue is in the
knowledge of Sony but they can not accept it in public. Please shot without the
adapter and use manual focus. Sony wide adapter is not of a good quality glass
of an otherwise fine camcorder. You may also limit the use of adapter to the
wide angle range because built-in PD170 lens is not wide enough. I recommend the
bayonet mount Tokina wide adapter be used with this camera as it's sharper and
does not degrade the image, you can zoom all the way with a minimal light loss.
Setting back focus on this Camera has to be done by a Sony service tech in the
menu. However, if you so desire you can get bayonet mount Tokina
wide adapter on eBay for under $150 and sold the PD 170 lens there.
Please do accept the solution if
the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the video head with the video cleaning discs. If this does not work then you must use swabs and isopropyl alcohol. If this does not work please contact me for more information.
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are actually looking for some
Some of the tapes that we get can be problematic so, if you want to record professionally like the TV studios do. Here is what you must do so that you do not lose the information on your tapes. Some of the bad news is that you can not recover anything from your DV tapes if nothing was recorded on them. However the way forward from now on is to record black on your tapes before shooting on them. Here is what you do. Buy a new tape or if you want to use a used tape you do the same. You insert your tape in the camcorder, with your lens cap on that means you do not take your lens cap off and then start recording. What you will be doing is laying black on your tape so that it becomes ready for recording. It means that your tape will now be recorded with black. you can then rewind and start recording with your cap off the true recording. The tapes will not then be problematic. Please let me know if this has solved your problem.
Fungus inside! pd170
This will require major disassembly to repair. The camera will need to be disassembled to remove the lens assembly and then the lens assembly will need to be disassembled to remove the fungus.
This can actually be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be done by a qualified service technician.

Sony DSR PD170 'green/sepia tinge' impossible to reset
i purchased a Pd-170 second hand online, when it finally arrived it had this problem regarding the red/pink tinge. I searched the internet looking to find what was the problem setting the white balance. There was nothing that could help me solve this mystery, so i took it to a professional company that fixes cameras, He diagnosed it straight away. it required a new CCD, Pd150/170s have 3 CCDs so it was an indicator that there was an issue deep within the camera. I got it replaced for £150, & that was without his labour,it can cost up too £300-£350 for new CCD replacement, Lesson learned NEVER buy second hand or anything online!
My sony Pd 170s LCD
The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to usually be repaired by a qualified service technician.
