Video Head cleaning

Tape is by itself also abrasive so you might just try running a long length tape from the beginning to the end to see if that does the trick. If that does not do it then you either have a badly clogged video head or a bad unit. You might also want to consider using Carbon tet or equivalent chemical on head assembly.

Could be the recording head is dirty. Run a cleaning tape through it and see if that makes a difference. Do NOT stick anything in the works to try and clean the heads by hand.

My sony camcorder dcr-hc26 gives error 32:23 or

These error codes indicate a problem in the cameras tape transport system. This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly, a defective clutch in the take-up spool or a faulty rotary mode switch. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Sony Handycam DCR-PC109 NTSC minicam--"Reinsert

The C31 indicates that there is a motor movement problem. I don't have the manual handy at the moment, but the :23 will indicate which movement is having the problem. This is not typically a DIY repair. I woul d strongly suggest that you check the fixed repair cost from a Sony authorized service center. This will not only repair the unit, but also reset it back to factory specifications.

I'll look up the error code tonight and try to update this.

I never do head cleaning

Cleaning the head is usually not required if you are recording fairly often. If you recorded after a long gap, then the problem could be due to dirty head, which affects tape playing as well. Buy a head cleaning cassette and see if it helps.
