Hi,thats may due from apiece of dust or sand piece where that jam the mechanism or it could the mechanism alignment,mode switch,or cass in switch ,it as to be realign and clean,
thats is my opinion that all i can do from here.
you will need a tech aid from camera repir shop
but its an hour job about depend on the technician....

If you have already installed the software in your computer, again you need not worry about the CD. If not, then I think you can still download all the software from Sony's site: http://www.sony-asia.com/support/product/dcr-sr47/modelfirst. This site has many tutorials on using the camcorder and also has answers to many FAQs.

This is a common problem with this model, which occurs when a cable connecting the LCD display to rest of the camera goes bad. Service Centres of Sony will replace this cable and it will start functioning normally. Replacement of this cable is a precision job and should not be attempted by untrained people.

If camcorder does not show live view in Camera mode that means problem with ccd imager chip or aperture in camera lens is stuck/ jammed.
Give close look inside camera front lens, turn it On, if you observe some thing opened that means aperture is working and ccd imager chip would be bad.

You should have a computer with either USB or firewire (also known as ilink or 1394) port and a cable to connect your camcorder to this port on computer. Using firewire would be better as you would not get good quality with USB (may be OK for VCD, but definitely not good for DVD). If you have Sony DCR-HC42 model, then place it on its stand and use the suitable port on its stand to connect to the computer via the cable. If it is some other camera, then see its manual to locate the port. Your camera should necessarily have one of these ports for conversion to DVD via computer. The computer should also have a DVD writer, apart from firewire port (or at least USB2 port for the poor quality).

Now, if you use Windows operating system and have this model of Sony, go to Sony's site and download the DVD making software from there. Connect your camcorder to computer and use this software for converting to DVD. The software is user friendly and you would be able to use it without problem. Do not use the software on CD that came with the camcorder as that can make only VCDs.

If you use linux, you can use dvgrab or kino software to capture the video on harddisk in raw (DV) or avi format. Afterwards, use mencoder or such software to convert and burn to DVD format.

Just call 1-800-222-7669 Sony Support. They will send you pre-UPS label and you mail your camcorder to Sony support. They will replace the LCD View finder for free. I did it about a year ago.

It need to replace LCD cable.Contact to service center.
