The top & sides of freezer outer housing getting quiet hot,but only near the door,ps-have the red light alert & rest seems ok,so going to try the defrost stuff.

If you remove the rear panel inside the freezer and examine the evaporator while running you will most times see a few rows of the evaporator with clear ice and the rest will be sweating water droplets. That is what a leak in the Freon will cause and look like. When the door frame gets hot it is sometimes caused by a defective condenser fan or blocked air flow and also reduce cooling. Warm is normal around door frame because you have hot gas flowing there to reduce sweating around doors. I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks Sea Breeze

Diverter valve on Hotpoint FFA70 recieves no power, Fridge ok

Bonjour..Your system check (hot cold) is correct. Generally all new refrig/freezers cool only the freezer & bleed cold air off to cool the refrigerator. Most diverter/airflow dampers I have seen are mechanically operated for simplicity & to keep costs down. I would unload freezer and pull the panel off where you see the fan mounted. Go slow, don't drop any screws. You may not get them back. Look at the drain pan under the evap. coil. If it has ice that is built up in layers. Suspect the defrost termination thermostat. If the evap coil is clogged with heavy frost, suspect 1 the defrost timer and 2 the defrost heaters mounted on the evap. coil. Let me know how you make out. Problem with fridge light on Hotpoint FFA70

Did you check the new lamp when you put it in? Did you keep the old lamp? It may well be the switch rather than the lamp itself. Check the lamp has continuity from the middle pin to the outer and the filament isn't broken

Hotpoint FFA71 fridge and freezer suddenly stopped working

Sounds as though the compressor has stopped working. It feeds both compartments with control from a printed circuit above the top door.Where all your red lights are ablaze! (This can be replaced by removing the 2 screws and "clicking" out the small panel) Check that the compressor is running at the bottom rear of the fridge/freezer before anything else.

Water beneath my salad bin

if the drain is truly not blocked then the water will go down it. try poking a piece of thin wire down it to check, and have a look on the outside at the back - some models have a tray or tank where this water collects that may be full - else the fridge drain should be plumbed into a drain - check from the outside too. Also check if the fridge is truly level. The feet allow you to adjust this and see - sometimes a small change in angle can spoil the drainage characteristics of these machines (possibly even lean it backwards a little if it looks like this might help). the only other possibility is if the fridge drain is fixed into another drain, that another appliance or fixture is causing back pressure - if so you would be able to see bubbling into your fridge if you sat and watched while someone else ran all the sinks/toilets/washers/dishwashers etc around the house - in theory though when all these other items are not running then the water should still drain.

My fridge freezer (Hotpoint FFA70) defrosted of

Hello, Your freezer is supposed to go into a defrost cycle every 8-12 hours. By doing this it defrosts any ice build up on the evaporator coil. Question though are you stateing both the fridge and freezer are wam in your unit? If this were the case then you would locate the compressor which in most units you would have to pull the unit away from the wall and remove the lower panel in order to access the compressor area. You can use the palm of your hand against the side of the compressor to assure if the compressor is running or not. If the compressor were not to be running then on most refrigerators on the side of the compressor is a small box if you were to remove the box this would give you access to the start relay and overload for the unit which is what starts the compressor. You would first unplug the machine and remove the small box. Next you would disconnect the wires going to the relay. After disconnecting the wires you would then remove the relay and overload off the side of the compressor. You would then inspect the relay for any blackend electrical burns and if there were none then you would shake the relay and if you heard a rattle in the relay this would be a sure sign that the relay need to be replaced. If you have any questions or find that the compressor is running when you use the palm of your hand on the compressor message me back for further diagnosis as well as your complete model number. I await your reply Thanks
Rick

We have the FFA70, it was working perfectly before

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP

REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK
TEMP IN FREEZER. IF TEMP IS BELOW 0 DEGREES, THATS
OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP
