jorickfranke, A picture is worth a thousand words!! Or in your case, a "video clip" at YOUTUBE! ! ! Search This "lcd monitor disassembly" or "lcd monitor repair" I'm sure you will find out how to do it. Just don't use sharp cutting instruments for "parting" the rear cover from the "front bezel" of unit. Cost of repair increases 10 fold if trip to hospital "ER" is required.

For best display on LCD monitor, you need to set the PC video resolution to the native resolution of the monitor, this monitor native resolution is 1280 x 1024 @60Hz.

mccampbell71 Probably a failure of inverter circuit(dc to ac 600-1100vac) to light-up (sustain) "cold-cathode-fluorescent lamps" causing the "switch-mode-power-supply" to go into full or partial SHUTDOWN mode. Check video cable and connection to computer. If the connection is fine, then this is either a faulty signal board, or a faulty LCD controller board.

More than likely it is drawing too much voltage, some of the older supplies would shut off after a few seconds if it was drawing too much,
the fix was to go into settings on the monitor and turn the brightness down, for you, you could put a resister in the line if you have no other way to adjust it.

I would also recommend not using one of these bulbs like that unless you have a way to protect it, they are known to contain mercury and several other very bad chemicals that will be released if broken.
