Look for buttons on the monitor, there should be a menu button allowing you to select a bunch of editable settings, usually including a brightness setting.
Hi, My monitor (AL1714) is fine for about 5
Hi! Looks like the monitor is in stressed and can't stand long time use. Replacing these parts plus labor is like buying a new one for it will take time and the availability of the parts. I strongly suggest that you buy a new one which can cost you less. HOpe this helps and thank you for using FIxYa!
How to open the backcover
jorickfranke, A picture is worth a thousand words!! Or in your case, a "video clip" at YOUTUBE! ! ! Search This "lcd monitor disassembly" or "lcd monitor repair" I'm sure you will find out how to do it. Just don't use sharp cutting instruments for "parting" the rear cover from the "front bezel" of unit. Cost of repair increases 10 fold if trip to hospital "ER" is required.
Good luck. 12fixlouie

My Acer AL1714 monitor was given to me, the person
mccampbell71 Probably a failure of inverter circuit(dc to ac 600-1100vac) to light-up (sustain) "cold-cathode-fluorescent lamps" causing the "switch-mode-power-supply" to go into full or partial SHUTDOWN mode. Black Screen of Death strikes again!!! The Question I have is why did you BUY a "black-brick" supply? Did the other one fall out of the car or get run over by a train? Only you will be able to make the decision of to REPAIR or Trade-in for new. You are no different than 5000 others worldwide (all brands) who have monitor's with BSOD! Yes, some (75-90%) can be saved to work 1-3 more years! Read some of my other responses in my profiles (12fixlouie aka louie12fix) to learn of the options you have open to you. Bye for now 12fixlouie If this info was of some use please rate on fixya.
Lcd flashing
Check video cable and connection to computer. If the connection is fine, then this is either a faulty signal board, or a faulty LCD controller board.
Using my broken screen as a bedside lamp
More than likely it is drawing too much voltage, some of the older supplies would shut off after a few seconds if it was drawing too much,
the fix was to go into settings on the monitor and turn the brightness down, for you, you could put a resister in the line if you have no other way to adjust it.
I would also recommend not using one of these bulbs like that unless you have a way to protect it, they are known to contain mercury and several other very bad chemicals that will be released if broken.

LCD Monitor Shadow Effect
This problem is best described as the LCD monitor "Shadow Effect".
The solution to this very simple. No software or hard ware changes required.
The cables that are connected to the LCD monitors are causing the problem. Its also called as electromagnetic noise or electrical noise.
Solution: Keep the two cables - (power cable and moitor display cable), that are connected to the LCD monitor as far away as possible with each other and also away from other electrical cables.
Thats it. Your shadow effect is fixed.
Thank you.
