Hello, there is a problem with your monitors picture tube. May be it might have been damaged as a result of over power or even because of over use. Just try to change the picture tube or change your Monitor.

That model used the same power supply that the Samsung 940mw uses and when the capacitors go out you get sound but no picture just like you are getting. The repair is easy, you just need to replace the bad capacitors on the power supply board. You will need to get an adapter that looks like this if it didn't already come with your Macbook.
It's called a displayport to VGA adapter. Most computer shops should have this item. Also remember to grab a VGA cable if you don't have the one that came with the monitor. Cheers.

My first bet is on a dead power-inverter. Get it replaced if you can still see a very darkened picture. OR... if there's no picture at all, call warranty support or take it to a repair shop. Also, if you're fine with electronics, I can guide you step-by-step to diagnose the fault.

in this case it would seem you are watching in nstc you need to switch the unit to pal using your remote switch the bbc to pal
