Make sure all your connections are tight and you have power to your speakers...Then go Start>Control Panel>Sound and Hardware>Sound, after you are in here make sure that your speakers are selected as default device.

If you want to repair, you will have to take it apart. The fault is the power supply. after you take it apart look for cap with the tops bluging. if you want post an picture of the power supply board..

the CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) is failing.

The bulb in those older Monitors dont last too long. Many times whenever you hear that sound its like the tungsten filament burning out or breaking. That's the crackling sound you hear as it boots up. My suggestion would be to get another monitor at this point in time.

Give this a try:

Hold down the Fn key and press the function key with "CRT/LCD" or picture of a CRT (usually F4 or F8). Toggle through and hopefully the Proview will work.

It also could be a problem with the settings.

Check the BIOS on the PC and make sure the video is set to Default to your video card rather than AGP or integrated.

It's also a possibility that the VGA port is not working.

you need to go to desktop and right click on a place where there is no icons. than go to properties. then go to screen saver. select power always on and this will stop this. also select no screen saver. good luck and good day

I would change the caps anyway, they're cheap. The IC's may be running hot trying to make up for the bad caps.

you have to put the proper secreen resolution. you do these
1. you checked it with another pc when it shows the screen then change the display properties screen resolution as minimum lke 600X800.
2. you also change the screen refresh rate to 60 Hz to solve this problem.

Can't really tell what kind of monitor you have there but, if you have a + and - button on the front of it try pushing both of them at the same time to reset it.

There are several ways to get Visio for cheap. If you are a student, there are discounted versions available online and in stores. Also, you can check with your school for even cheaper options sometimes. Try the university bookstore if available. Or a Computer Science department maybe.
