i was filming, and i tripped and my gl2 hit the ground. it hit the battery kind of hard and now it wont work properly. now when i turn it on, the power light blinks red or green, depending on playback and recording mode. i want to know how i can fix this.

does the camera work with the a/c power adapter?
If not then it could be something internal.
But if it works with the adapter, your batteries are bad or your battery terminals are dirty.
But just to be safe I would replace the back-up battery which is locate in the screen pocket of the camera. its a CR-2025 Nickel Cadmium battery

Canon Cameras **** out i work for a school system we have a few of them and the take a good beating, great camera. Unfortunately we have two of them that have that problem. We called canon and they said they need service hopefully yours is under warranty, it needs it s guts replaced.

More likely the loading gears are damaged. When you open the outer door and the latch triggers the motor to release the tape compartment. When the gears are not in good condition, it will move up partially or none at all. The remedy is repairing loading gear mechanism. You were practicing what consumer shoud do to clean video heads. If you were using the tape too many times, it may wear the head down quickly. First remedy would be let a professional technician clean the head for you to make sure it is not heavy clogging of the head. If that did not work, it requires tracking system adjusted and aligned before the video heads is replaced. I hope the cleaning by a technician takes care the problem. Good luck -James. You may have a heavy clogging of the heads. The head cleaning tape will not serve in this situation but manual head cleaing from trained technician. Head cleaning service shoud go around $100. You did every thing right. Audio is effected by clogged video heads and the audio circuit. At this time, you might look at the service by professionals. 50% chance the audio problem could be resolved by cleaning video heads and tape path without much adjustment, you cost would be around $100-150. Your GL2 has a case of clogged heads. If the clogging is minor, you can clean by using head cleaning tape. 1.Open the tape door and blow out any dusts present. 2. run tape cleaner for about 10 seconds but NO MORE. Hope it works. -James. Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)

This sounds like the back light has failed. Given that this is only a few months old, I would bring it back for an examination +/or exchange.
