Sony VAIO GRZ610 Notebook Questions & Answers
Recovering password or reseting
Well the failsafe way to do that is to remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard. But that involves opening the case to the laptop and finding/removing it.
Opening a laptop is certainly not an easy thing to do, however.
Another option is to find your model number, go to the SONY website and find the manual. There may be instructions in the manual on how to clear the CMOS password.
Also, there is sometimes a RESET button on the bottom of laptops. (It'll usually require a paperclip to activate it.) If your laptop has that, then it'll most likely clear the CMOS password.
Good luck.
I have a Sony VAIO GRZ610, old i know. Won't power up,
If you cannot get the laptop working then try this method. Remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees this as an USB mass storage device (external hard drive) and you can open the various folders and files, then you can backup and or transfer your data to another computer. If yiu install the hard drive in an USB hard drive case then you can use this hard drive as an external USB hard drive.

Battery not charging.
This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
- Computer AC / DC cable is bad not allowing the computer battery to charge.
- Battery is bad.
- Battery charger board is bad.
When i turn the notebook
Sounds like one of two issues,
1. You have the internal display turned off. When you turn the laptop on you should hear a single beep. Do you see the Sony Logo during bootup? Have you tried to turn the display back on? Try pressing the Fn+F7, or Fn+F8, key combination. There are only three modes and these key combinations allow you to cycle through these modes. Either the Primary Screen is on, or the External Screen is on, or both are on.
2. You may have a bad video card or the screen is dead. When you power up the laptop, can you see a glow, but the screen is black? Can you see the Bootup Screen with the Sony Logo, but barely? Have you tried to connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if the video card is working? If you get video to the external monitor, the video card is working. If you don't, then the video card may be bad. If you are getting video on the external monitor, try using the key combinations listed above and try to cycle through your Internal/External display modes. If nothing shows up on the laptop display then the LCD screen may be bad. It could be the back light. Those are internal to the LCD. That means you will have to replace the entire LCD display on the laptop.
Hope that helps.
Display doesnt work
try to connect an external monitor to your notebook to check if that is not a video card problem, if the external monitor works fine then you have LCD problem.
