Hello, . didn't see if you'd gotten other answers to your question. Quick history, worked on those when they were new. If your hitting a letter and getting more than one space you have a sticky escapement pawl. What this is, is a small device that makes out of the escapement track when a letter is typed. A older machine like this may have more than one problem. If it's been sitting for a Long time little things may pop up once in a while. Quick temp.fix. with the typewriter in fRont of you, tip it up so it's sitting on the back and you can see all the key levers. When you see what looks like a saw blade on the part that moves (the carriage), center the carriage, with your eyes look into the very bottom, with machine still on its back and hit a few keys you should see some small parts moving out trying too. Lightly spray with a lubricating penetrating oil. This will loosen and lube, but this is temporary unless you want to pay for an overhaul. Lots of words, hope it helps if not let me know, maybe I can try to draw something up.

Skipping as to spaces in typing. usually lubrication, what is called the escapment under the keyboard is usually sticking. It works like a rocker one tooth goes to what is called the star wheel, moves one space and the second tooth catches it. Usually spary that are with WD40. If it works you need to lightly spru with spay oil or silicone. could be broken teeth also on gears and what is called escapment rack, good luck.

Most likely bad printwheel, spokes may be catching on the ribbon and not going to home position. Try a new wheel, and or make sure carrier is returning to home position every time. make with white out the top of the print wheel spoke at home position and make sure it always comes back to that spot when you turn machine on and off and on. This will tell you if the machine is starting in the same place every time.
