Your probable problem is either the power supply or function board. The fact that the lights go out usually means it is not a keyboard problem. Does the machine beep and if so, how many times?

The wheelwriters do not use a "ball element". They use a printwheel. You can find many different typestyles on ebay or amazon.

When you type, does the machine do anything? It is possible the print solenoid is damaged and may need a "cap" repair kit to resolve the printing. Your space bar may have a dirty contact and it may be possible to repair it without having to replace the entire keyboard. If the machine does nothing when you hit any key, you may try looking to see if one or both of the connectors on the back of the keyboard are plugged in.

Try a little WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on they do get gummy, if that fails spray some on the carrier motor bearings. It is in the Right rear under the case. You can reach the front one by moving the carrier to the left. The rear one you'll have to fish the straw through the case.DickyO

tHE CORRECTION TAPE CARTRIDGE JUST CLIPS ONTO THE BOTTOM OF THE RIBBON CARTRIDGE. THERE IS A CATCH/RELEASE LEVER ON THE FRONT OF THE RIBBON CARTRIDGE.

Check if they are on the wheel. They had a habit of spokes snapping off.
