Try to open the cover of the laptop and clean the vents in the heat sink area and the cpu area. It is very likely those vents have been filled up with dust and down. Remove and clean the heat sink that covers the cpu, also.

Starting point would be to turn the computer right off including taking out the battery unplug the power supply wait a while and then reconnect power supply and restart holding down the key that allows you to enter the BIOS. Reset the BIOS to default settings and then restart. If this works then reinsert the battery and hopefully this will fix your problem.

Zv5000 Laptops are plagued with problems related to the jack on the back of the computer. After prolonged use the jack tends to make the solder joint loose. Jacks can also go bad. The solution would be to check if the power comes on momentarily when wiggling the plug in the jack, if the power comes on intermittently then chances are you have a loose solder joint and may need repaired by a qualified tech. Fortunately, for the technically savvy this may be done carefully provided the proper static sensitive precautions are taken, due to the fact the computer must be totally dismantled to get to the jack and properly inspect the solder connections and repair or replace the jack. Silver heat sink compound must also replace the silicone on the processor ( one dab and compress, do not spread compound!) The jack need should it be replaced can be found on Ebay

if you can see something on scree..enter safe mode by pressinf F8 continously when your computer is starting and install video driver

The first thing to do is test an another charger,
maybe a workshop let you try theirs to get your problem sorted out.
if it works fine with the other charger, then its just to buy a new one.
if the same problem still exists with an another charger,
then its your charger connection solderings that are loose.
To prevent further damage to the motherboard
you must leave it to a workshop for resoldering the charger connection on to the motherboard

I just built/repaired one of these the other day. My son uses it now. Motherboards are notorious for going out. However you need to give more description to your problem. You just say it has issues but that doesnt really tell me anything. If you turn it on and get no beeps and no screen and everything seems dead except for the power light then it needs the system board replaced. But if you see the hard drive light running like normal with nothing on the screen then try it with an external monitor. If the external monitor works then the screen has died but the motherboard video card components are good. If you still got nothing then the board is bad and will need replaced.
I'm sorry it is almost always bad news on these.

The graphics chip needs resoldering (reflow). Got the same laptop in for repair yesterday. At first when power cord plugged in all LEDS stay, hard drive spins but fans don't work and nothing on screen. A bit later everything's dead. I've seen too many HPs with poor soldering issues. can't really say they're making good laptops these years.

HP dv series laptops are notorious for motherboard problems. I'm sorry to say your's sounds like what I've seen to often. Contact HP as they have extended the warranty periods on a lot of the models and your's may still be in affect.

in all likelyhood it's the connect that the power cord plugs into. the soldering often fails in that area. it needs to be resoldered to make a good connection
