If you are having an issue with your back light then 99% of the time it is easier to change the whole screen. Playing around with the back light bulbs could be a real pain and I would suggest looking on eBay or the other usual places you find laptop parts for a screen.

If you are lucky enough that it is the inverter those are much easier to change out. It might be worth looking for one first since they also cost much less than a screen.

Check the Leds on laptop. Try to turn on the laptop with just the a/c adapter. Disconnect battery,a/c adapter and drain flea power by holding power button for 15 second. Connect /ac adapter and check. Disconnect harddrive and memory from laptop.Reconnect and try to reboot.Possible issue with motherboard.

A skewed display usually indicates an incorrect driver. Try rolling the driver back or reinstalling it.

However, because you are experiencing the problem at BIOS, its most likely related to the monitor. It could be the inverter or just the screen itself. It might be cause to replace the screen or contact the manufacturer to utilize the warranty, if applicable. Seems like a factory fault.

do u have a external monitor,connect it up and see whether,u r output is any better..

Take the computer into a DARK room and start it up.
If there now is a faint image on the screen, then the "LCD Inverter" component of the electronics has failed, and needs to be replaced.
It's a $20 part, but you'll have to pay a certified computer technician for 1 hour of labour to replace it.

You either have a bad adapter or a broken power jack in the laptop. To check the adapter use a multimeter set to voltage and connect one lead to the center in and the other to the outside metal contact. You should get a reading from 18 to about 26 volts. If you get no reading then the adapter needs to be replaced. If you get the correct reading then the power jack in the laptop will need to be replaced. If yo are ok with electronics repair you can get the jacks from Ebay.com if not your local computer repair shop should be able to do it for you.

the battery might be going bad on it, try taking the battery out and running the computer just off of the plug. that series of HP has overheating issues and are prone to randomly shutting down. if you have a bad battery, it can overstress the powersupply trying to charge a bad battery. Also, the solder joints tend to go bad on the motherboard where the power jack is connected to it, so try holding your power wire at a bit of an angle while turning it on and see if that does the trick (the sideways force can temporarily connect those broken joints.. There was also a class action settlement on these computers i believe, so google class action zd7000 and see if you qualify. The power plug jack was part of this, so you might get it fixed free of charge.
