Interesting.

The HP Pavilion dv4000 series of Notebook PC's use the MXM-SIG MXM technology.
(Mobile pci-eXpress Module,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MXM

Nvidia made the MXM module for the Pavilion dv4000 series of Notebook PC's.
It is an Nvidia G73M-256

(The M stands for Mobile. Laptops are mobile devices. The 256 stands for the graphics memory amount in MegaBytes. {MB) This is a unit from the Nvidia GeForce G0 7600 graphics controller)

This is the motherboard. An Asus A8SN-CF (Phoenix)

This is information about MXM upgrades,

Since Nvidia no longer directly supports the MXM platform, but does it through MXM-SIG, these guy's are the ones to ask IMHO.

How to Reset HP Pavilion Password on Notebook Computer

kathli.jpg

Pavilion BIOS password reset is commonly needed. Today, we talk about HP Pavilion Windows password reset solutions. Our Windows OS users can set up administrator account and encrypt it with password to enter the OS. This actually prevents unauthorized users from operating on your system. While, if we Pavilion PC users forget the encrypted password and can't login Windows, now what to do for HP Pavilion password reset?

Firstly, if there are not important files on our HP Pavilion notebook, we can reinstall system by deleting all data and cleaning system. Most of us may hope opt for other ways to bypass the Pavilion login password.

Secondly, please think that is there still another account for us to enter Pavilion PC. In Windows XP, Vista, there is HP Pavilion default administrator which has blank password. For Windows 7, the built-in administrator account is disable defaulted. Only if we set it as enable, the account can be used at the moment.
Take HP Pavilion Windows XP password reset from Safe Mode as example:
a. Press "F8" when Pavilion laptop starts.
b. At the "Advanced Boot Options" windows, choose "Safe Mode" with arrow key and Enter, then PC enters Safe Mode.
c. Click "Administrator" on the Windows login screen.
Note that if we have set this HP Pavilion administrator password, we need to input the password instead of leaving "Password" field blank.
d. Start - Control Panel - User Accounts.
e. Select the locked account and reset password for the locked account.
f. Restart Pavilion laptop and login with the account newly password reset.

Thirdly, the least troublesome solution on Pavilion password recovery is to opt for password reset program tool. With the program and a CD/DVD/USB disk, we can easily remove the password for locked computer. Take Windows Password Recovery Corporation as example:
Step1. Burn .iso file to a CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive on an accessible PC;
Step2. Set locked computer to boot from CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive;
Step3. Recover forgotten Windows password with the burned CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive.

Certainly that the 3 ways can make sure we reset Pavilion password finally. The Windows Password Recovery Corporation can be used for Windows 7, XP, Vista, and Windows Server 2003, 2008 domain password, etc.

Touchpad not working on a

There could be several reasons for this issue, including:

(1) Drivers need to be installed on your machine:
  • Find the product number for your laptop (it will usually be somewhere on a bottom panel of your laptop in the form of: dv4001AP or similar)
  • Go to this link here and choose your product number
  • Select your operating system from the choices (Windows 7, Vista, XP, etc.)
  • Scroll down and select "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices"
  • Select "Touchpad Pointing Device Driver"
  • Select "Download"
  • Select "Open" (or "Save" and then open the file after download)
  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • Restart your computer at least once in order for the changes to take effect (after installation)
(2) The touchpad has been damaged in some form, whether from exposure to high pressure, temperature, etc. or from prolonged, rough use. In this case, you can choose to have it repaired by a technician, but this may cost money if the product is not under warranty.

Neither of these methods is a guarantee, but it's worth a shot. Good luck

How to detect microphone in

Hi,

I think it would be better if we check that the built-in microphone is working on your machine.

Internal microphone

The internal microphone is located near the top of the notebook LCD display or near the bottom of the LCD display near the hinge. Use the following best practices to better capture sound with the microphone.

-Adjust the notebook PC screen to place the microphone in the best direction for receiving sound.

-Speak directly into the microphone. Avoid speaking away from the microphone.

-When using the internal microphone, choose an environment without background noise.

Testing the record function on the notebook PC

1. Click Start , then Programs , Accessories , Entertainment , and then Sound Recorder .
2. Click Record (the red dot) and speak into the microphone.
3. When you are finished recording, click Stop (the gray rectangle).
4. To play back the recording, click Play (the gray arrow pointing to the right).

If happens that the recording with the microphone have no sound we have check the settings.

Checking microphone settings

1. Click Start , then Programs , Accessories , Entertainment , and then Volume Control .
2. A Volume Control or Master Volume window opens.
3. Click Options , and then Properties .
4. Select Recording , and make sure Microphone is selected.
5. Click OK . The Volume Control window should change to a Recording Gain Control window.
6. Click Options again and then click Advanced Controls . If Advanced Controls is unavailable, then an alternate microphone is not available. Proceed to the next series of steps.
7. Remove the check next to Alternate microphone , click Close , and test the microphone. If there is still no sound, continue to the next step

Ensuring the correct recording device is selected

1. Access sound properties:

-In Windows XP, to access the sound control panel applet, click Start , then Control Panel . Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices , and then click Sounds and Audio Devices .

-In Windows 95, 98, and Me, click Start , Settings , and Control Panel . Double-click Sounds and Multimedia , or Multimedia . The Sounds and Multimedia Properties window opens.

2. Click the Audio tab.

3. Under Sound Playback , select the audio device that is installed on the computer (there should be only one).

4. Under Sound Recording , select the audio device that is installed on the computer. It should be the same as the listing under Sound Playback .

5. Click OK .

6. Close the Sound and Multimedia Properties window and test the recording.

Feel free to reply if happens the steps I've told you is not working. Hope it helps.
